Henry Joseph Gross, 1867 to 1951 Alice Whitney Norcross Gross, 1872 to 1967 |
Henry was educated in the Worcester Public and High Schools. Upon graduation from the Worcester High School, he went to work in the dry goods business with his father. He ceased working directly in that business in about 1905, going to work with his father-in-law Orlando Whitney Norcross at Norcross Brothers. He sold his interests in dry goods business in 1912 and became Vice President in charge of Canadian Business for Norcross Brothers. In 1918, he purchased the Canadian interests of Norcross Brothers and affiliated with Anglins Limited under name of Anglin Norcross Limited. He was Vice President until the death of Mr. J. P. Anglin in 1932 when he became President of the Company. In 1943, due to illness, he passed the President's job to his son Philip. President, Anglin Norcross Limited; President, National Granite Works Limited; Director, Anglin Norcross Maritime Limited; Anglin Norcross Ontario Limited and Anglin Norcross Quebec Limited. Buildings erected by Anglin Norcross include some of Canada's outstanding structures - the Royal York Hotel, Toronto; Canadian Bank of Commerce Head Office Building, Toronto; Canada Life Head Office Building, Toronto; Permanent Mortgage Building, Toronto; Ontario Hydro Electric Head Office Building, Toronto; Supreme Court Building, Ottawa; Chateau Frontenac Hotel, Quebec ; Church of St. Andrew and St. Paul, Montreal; Chateau Apartments, Montreal; also industrial plants for Aluminum Company of Canada Limited, Kingston and Beauharnois; Electric Steels Limited, Three Rivers, Quebec; Campbell Soup Company, Toronto; Dominion Textile Company Limited , Magog and Montreal; Canadian Industries Limited Nylon Plant, Kingston; and war projects for the Department of Munitions and Supply at Quebec, Halifax, Toronto and Sarnia. Alice was educated in the Worcester Public and High Schools. She then attended Wellesley College, Wellesley, Massachusetts 1890 to 1895, and was graduated with the degree of Bachelor of Arts. |
