    START: Fratesi continued e-mail:

Perhaps somewhere in all of that stuff there is an answer.

The last George had two sons who both died without having children. One
died in 1877 and the other in 1898.

The seat of the family was at Shanbally Castle, Clogheen, co. Tipperary with
a London residence at31 Old Burlington St. W. The 2nd Viscount's clubs were
    Travellers' and Kildare St. Dublin.

They advertised for my grandfather's older brother , as far as I can tell
somewhere in between 1806 and 1811. James apparently made some move towards
going to either England or Ireland- he got a passport and then he died. The
next in line was my grandfather and he just let it ride and said they
probably only wanted him to pay some back taxes. He was a real laid back
kind of person and I guess between the Great War in 1914 and not so good
times after they kind of let it go.
The lawyer that advertised for James Lismore /Charles Lismore was named
    Proudlove.
He was in Toronto. I only know these things second hand because it was
Wilfred Lismore son of James who died in 1911 that had some proof.]
He died in 1982 and nobody else cared about it and by the time I got any of
his papers a lot of the stuff had disappeared, including all the
certificates daughter claims to have nothing else and his widow (second
wife for two years before he died) took everything he had but told me she
didn't have any certificates or anything else.
    ]

Wilfred married Marjorie DICKSON on 11 Jun 1955 in Niagara, Ontario. Marjorie was born on 12 Feb 1923 in Canada; died on 17 May 1996 in US Consulate in Canada. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    Children:
    1. Doreen Ellen LIZMORE was born on 07 Aug 1956 in Niagara, Niagara District, Ontario; died in 1975 in Niagara Falls, Ontario; was buried in Fairview cemetery, Niagara Falls, Ontario.

Family/Spouse: Margaret FELLINGER. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Family/Spouse: Ellen HASLAM. Ellen was born on 02 Sep 1904; died on 11 Jul 1977 in Niagara Falls, Ontario; was buried in Fairview cemetery, Niagara Falls, Ontario. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Generation: 2

  1. 2.  James Calvin LIZMORE was born on 28 Jun 1866 in Clifton, Ontario, Canada (son of Charles Richard LIZMORE and Emily Orilla GOODENOUGH); died on 12 May 1927 in Niagara Falls, Welland County, Ontario; was buried in Fairview cemetary, Welland County, Niagara Falls, Ontario.

    Notes:

NOTE 1./ Occurrences according to Donna Fratesi regarding the Lord Lismore and Lismore Castle connection:

(begin paraphrased Fratesi) A Toronto Lawyer by the name of Proudlove posted Ads in the Toronto newspapers between 1906 and 1911, looking for "a son of Charles Richard Lizmore" who had died by this time. James Lizmore responded, and literally with passport in hand, was ready to go to England or Ireland to take over the inheritance or whatever he found there, since apparently he wasn't quite sure of what, when he died. Thus the responsibility fell to Charles Richard's other son, Charles David, to take up the quest. Charles David was extremely laid back and decided that the Canadian Lizmores were being sought out, only to pay back taxes and so refused to follow up.

Donna feels that the Toronto area papers would still have a record of the Ad, looking for a son of Charles Richard Lizmore. This would still not tell you who was looking for them, however Countess Lismore, (surname O'Callahan) did die around 1900, and perhaps it took that long to probate the will and find someone to leave it to.

Fratesi knows only of these revelations 2nd hand because it was the son of James, Wilfred Lizmore who died in 1982, that had some proof. By the time Donna got any of Wilfreds papers, a lot of the stuff had disappeared including all the certificates. Wilfreds daughter claims to have nothing else, and his widow ( 2nd wife for 2 years before he died ) took everything he had, but told Fratesi that she didn't have any certificates or anything else. (end of paraphrased Fratesi)

NOTE 2./ The following is the 1881 UK census showing the turn of the century terminal line of the Viscount of Lismore, and the lands and holdings pursuant to Lizmore Castle. The following George (O'Callahan) Lismore had two sons that died in 1877 and 1898 without issue. This has no association at this point in time, but listed here only for possible future reference. The Seat of this family was at Shanbally Castle, Clogheen Co., Tipperary, with a London residence at 31 Old Burlington Street West.

Cornelius O Callaghan (1742 - 97) of Shanbally Castle, Clogheen, County Tipperary, was created Baron Lismore in 1785. His son was known as the 1st Viscount Lismore and his daughter was the mother of one of the Dukes of Devonshire, whose family owns Lismore Castle.

NOTE 4./ From: Lismore Castle <<>>
Lismore Castle, the birthplace of Robert Boyle, the celebrated scientist whose name lives in "Boyle's Law"was also once the home of Sir Walter Raliegh. It is now the Irish residence of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire. You can walk through the magical and very beautiful gardens, which are extensive. The gardens are set in seven acres within the 17th century outer defensive walls. Recently several pieces of contemporary sculpture have been installed in the gardens. It is a place where you can relax and stroll. Prince John built the original castle in 1185. The Estate was granted for a time to Sir Walter Raliegh. He sold the property to Richard Boyle, later the 1st Earl of Cork, who rebuilt the castle. The present owner of the castle is Lord Harrington, the son and heir of the 11th Duke of Devonshire. Lord Harrington's great uncle Lord Charles Cavendish was married to Adele Astaire. Fred Astaire, her brother, was a frequent visitor to the castle.

I always remember my Mom talking about Aunt Vel. My grandmother, Annie Conley Lizmore always felt that they thought they were better than her. Of course, my grandmother was born of Irish immigrants and you know how they were looked on at that time. They still saw alot of each other and I remember some of them at my grandfather's funeral. I was only 5 but can remember that Mary Lizmore was very dour and never smiled.
In Fairview cemetery in Niagara Falls in the Lizmore plot are two more graves unmarked. My grandmother's oldest girl, Mary died of diptheria in 1900 at the age of 7 and there was another baby girl, stillborn in 1897. If you looked up the cemetery you can see where the plots are.

My Grandfather was born in England on June 16, 1869. His father had been in the Royal Canadian Regiment of Rifles. That is what it says on his Father's discharge papers. They are dated June the 23rd, 1868.

The children before my grandfather and the children after were all born in Canada. England is written as my grandfather's birthplace in all the cencus I have read and in his obituary. I cannot find his birth
registration in the books at the Family Record Centre nor can I find it here in Canada. My grandpa always said he was born in the barracks in London.

One document says that Charles Lizmore, late of the Canadian Rifles was admited an OUT-PENSIONER of her Majesty's Royal Hospital at Chelsea, on the 23 June, 1868 and receives a Pension of 1 pound per diem.
