Charles Waldron Evans (usually called Wally) graduated from the University of British Columbia and joined the Hudson's Bay Company (HBC) in 1952. He was assistant manager of the HBC Winnipeg store 1961-1964, general manager of the central region, Winnipeg, 1968-1973, and eventually became President of the Hudson's Bay Company from 1979 till his retirement in 1988. He served as Director of the HBC from 1979 to 1985. He was a Director of the Winnipeg Symphony and served on one of the first Canadian trade commissions to China in the 1970s.
