    Gladys Ida Gravel was the daughter of Hector Gravel and Gladys Perron.
    Gladys Perron was the daughter of Pierre Perron and Anna Bella Donald.
    Pierre Perron was from Laterriere, Quebec. Anna Bella Donald was from Sonewall, Mantioba.
    First Nations heritage was passed down from Eliza Boucher who was born in Fort Alexander, NWT and married a Thomas Firth from Scotland.
    They moved to the Red River Settlement in Manitoba. Their daughter Ann Nancy Firth married a John R Donald. John and Ann had 7 children, with Anna Bella being the 2nd oldest.
    Anna Bella Donald moved to Port Arthur in the early 1890's and her first husband William Howard passed away in 1893. She remarried to Pierre Perron and they had four daughters, Gladys being the second child.
    Gladys and her sisters were born in Rossport, Ontario. Gladys is buried there with her parents.
    Gladys Perron had four other children from different fathers and she died at the age of 27 we believe from preclampsia in her last pregnancy.
    It is understood that Gladys Ida was placed in an orphange, while the other children were adopted out.

    The Ontario Canada Catholic Church Records, Event Year 1866-1880, Place of Worship Alexandria, record that:
    Donald John McDonald was baptized on Feb 16,1876. He was born on Feb 5,1876 to Dougald McDonald and Mary Cameron.
    The baptism was performed by Rev. Father John S. O'Connor, Parish Priest at St Finnans Cathedral in Alexandria, Ontario.

    Dougald McDonald was the son of John McDonald and Isabella McGillis, of 1/7 Caledonia in Parish of Lochiel.
    Mary Cameron was the daughter of Duncan Cameron and Mary McDonald of 11/3rd Concession Kenyon, Parish of Alexandria.

    Dougald and Mary were married on May 13,1873 at St Finnans by Father John S. O'Connor.

    See the 1881 Census for Mary Cameron - 2 sons listed ages 7 and 5 - listed as Cameron not McDonald. Mary is living at her parents farms - her father Duncan is widowed.

    The Death Notice for Donald John McDonald - born Feb 5 1876 lists parents as Donald John McDonald and Mary Cameron of Gengarry County, Ontario.
    It is possible that Dougald had a middle name of John as that was his father's name.
    He also may have gone by Donald in later years.
    Dougald was alive at the time of the 1871 Census. Still trying to validate where he was subsequent to the birth of his son in 1876.
    The obituary in the Fort William Daily Times on Saturday Nov 9th,1929 records as follows:
    "Donald John McDonald, aged 53 years, died at 10 PM last night in St Joseph's Hospital in Port Arthur, after a two week's illness, thought he had been in poor health for a long time.He was born in Glengarry Township, and made his home in McIntyre. The funeral will be held on Wed Nov 13th at 10 AM from Sargent & Sons Funeral parlour to St Andrew's Roman Catholic Church, thence to St Andrew's R.C. Cemetery".

    Not sure if ever married to Don J Johnston. Elma would have been about 18 years old at the time.
    Arrived in Port Arthur, Ontario about 1902 - had lived in Port Arthur for 43 years at time of her death.

    Elma took in a boarder by the name of Paddy, who had come over from Ireland.
    Paddy boarded with Elma for about 12 years.

    The 1861 Census has Dougald and his siblings living with an W Alexander McDonald (FEMALE)- age 40, born abt 1821. She was widowed.
    I believe that Dougald's father John had passed away near to the time of the Census, and the children were sent to live with a relative.
    The 1871 Census has Dougald and his siblings living in Cornwall with their widowed mother Isabella - age 50.

    Dougald McDonald was the son of John McDonald and Isabella McGillis, of Lot1/7th Concession Caledonia Township, County of Prescott, in Parish of Lochiel.
    Mary Cameron was the daughter of Duncan Cameron and Mary McDonald of Lot 11/3rd Concession Kenyon Township, County of Glengarry, Parish of Alexandria.

    Dougald and Mary were married on May 13,1873 at St Finnans in Alexandria by Father John S. O'Connor
    Present at the marriage were D D McMillan and Bella Cameron.

    The Ontario Canada Catholic Church Records, Event Year 1866-1880, Place of Worship Alexandria, record that:
    Donald John McDonald was baptized on Feb 16,1876. He was born on Feb 5,1876 to Dougald McDonald and Mary Cameron.

    Dougald deserted Mary and the boys on March 25,1877. Believed to have taken off to New York State.
    At the time of the 1881 Census, as Mary is living with her widowed father at the Cameron family farm.
    Mary moved to Alcona County in the fall of 1883 and on March 7, 1885 filed a Biil for Divorce with the Circuit Court for the County of Alcona, State of Michigan.
    A court hearing was held on September 2nd and judgement was made on September 9th.

    Mary Cameron was remarried to Dan Stewart on Sept 12,1885 in Black River, Alcona County, Michigan.
    She had more children by Dan Stewart and in 1896 they moved to the Dakota Territory.

    Dougald married Mary CAMERON on 13 May 1873 in Alexandria, Ontario, Canada.     Mary is listed in the 1881 Census as Mary Cameron, status as married, living at Lot 11, 3rd Concession, Kenyon Twp. Her father Duncan is widowed, so Mary must have gone to live with her family. There are two children named Angus and Donald also listed on the 1881 Census, with the surname Cameron. These are believed to be the children of Mary.

    One was given the name John after Dan's father, and one was named Duncan Mae after Mary's two parents.
    Around 1896 the family moved to Rolette County in the Dakota Territory where they homesteaded land near the town of St John and where they have descendants today.
