Notes: The book "History of the Counties of Argenteuil, Quebec and Prescott, Ontario", by Cyrus Thomas (1896) states that John was the eldest and most educated sons of Peter. He graduated from the University of Edinburgh, and was a tutor for a gentleman's family in Scotland. In Canada he was a teacher in the public school at Chatham in Argenteuil County. "He was a man of superior abilities, well read in all the literature of the day, of a reflective and cultured mind; but owing to a retiring disposition, would take no part in the struggles of public affairs. In person he was of slight build and delicate constitution, in singular contrast to the rest of his brothers, who were all strong and rugged.." John married Myra NOYES. Myra died in Aug 1827. Notes: In the book "History of the Counties of Argenteuil, Quebec and Prescott, Ontario", by Cyrus Thomas (1896), Peter is said to have lived on the estate of the Duke of Argyle in Scotland.The book also states that Peter first settled with his family on a farm in St. Andrews called "Bellevue", and later moved to a property on the front of Chatham, purchased from a Colonel Daniel Robertson. 8. | Duncan DEOR died in UNKNOWN. Notes: The book "History of the Counties of Argenteuil, Quebec and Prescott, Ontario", published in 1896 by Cyrus Thomas (John Lovell and Sons, Montreal, 1896) states that the two brothers, Duncan and Peter Dewar emigrated from the Glasgow area to Quebec in 1804 with their families. Duncan was said in the book to be the younger of the two brothers, arriving with a wife and one child. Peter was said to arrive in Canada with a wife and 9 children. Searching in the old parish records for Dewar (or Deore or Deor) parents having two sons named Duncan and Peter, with Peter born in the mid 1700s, and Duncan born later, turned up Duncan Deor (Dewar) and Janet McIver, as well as their other child - Donald. All three children were born in Killin Parish, Perthshire. Killin Parish is in the highlands of western Perthshire. It is about 50 miles north of Glasgow. Killin is also the place of origin marked on the grandfather clock that Duncan Dewar brought to Canada in 1804. The parish records of Killin indicate a large number of Dewars, Doers, Deors and Deoirs born there in the mid 1700s. The most common male names were Donald, Duncan, James and John.
