    James was living beside Richard Cheshire in 1810 Bladen Co., N.C. census.
    James was in Bladen County in 1815.
    James called "Short" in deed 1816, Bladen Co., also in The Robeson Accounts.
    James buys land in Rutherford Co., N.C. from William White, 4 Nov. 1818.

    James was listed in the1820 Rutherford Census.
    James state land grant entered 1834, Rec. Nov. 2, 1836.
    On March 22, 1839, Mark R. Dedmon writes in his will, "for love and affection" To my granddaughter Demony Singletary, and to my daughter Mary Polly Dedmon Proctor and John Proctor, lifetime use of the place.

    IN THE NAME OF GOD “AMEN”

    I, James Singletary Senr. In the County of Bladen in the State of North Carolina, being of sound mind and memory, thanks be to God for the same, yet being weak of body and reflecting it is appointed for all men once to die do therefore make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in Manner following, Viz:

    FIRST: I desire to resign my soul to Almighty God that gave it, in happy resurrection.

    SECONDLY: I desire my body to be returned to its Mother Earth and buried in a Christian manner at the discretion of my Executors hereafter named.

    THIRDLY: I desire that all my just debts be paid punctually by and necessary dispatch.

    FOURTHLY: I give and bequeath to my heir or heirs of my last Nancy McCaleb, deceased, twenty Schillings to be paid on demand.

    FIFTHLY: I desire that the remainder of my Estate both real and personal be agreeable to law, be divided amongst my surviving heirs via: - My wife Nancy, my Sons, Thomas, James and Samuel.

    SIXTH: I constitute and appoint my friend Bartram Robeson together with my two Sons, Thomas and James my Executors of this my last Will and Testament.

    In witness whereof I sign, seal and confirm the same this the 20th day of February 1810.

    Will, dated 2oth Feb 1810, for James Singletary of Bladen County NC. In it he mentions the "heir or heirs of my late Nancy McCaleb, deceased," and "my surviving heirs via: - my wife Nancy, my Sons, Thomas, James, and Samuel." He names friend Bartram Robeson and sons Thomas and James as executors. In the Will of Nancy/Ann Singletary, widow of the Late James Singletary, she names a granddaughter Elizabeth Moore McCaleb, and sons Thomas, James, and Samuel. Her will was proved in August term 1816 in Bladen County, NC. Obviously James and Ann Singletary had a son Thomas as well as a son James and a son Samuel and a daughter Nancy who married a McCaleb.

    The 22nd day of August in the year of our lord 1765 I, Benjamin Singletary of Bladen County, Planter, being very sick and weak in body but of perfect mind and memory, thanks be given unto God for the same and calling to mind the mortality of my body, and knowing that it is appointed for all men to die, do make this my last Will and Testament, that is to say principally and first of all.

    I give and recommend my soul into the hands of God, that gave it, and for my body I recommend it to the earth to be buried in a Christian-like and decent manner at the descretion of my Executors, nothing doubting but at the general resurrection I shall receive the same again by the mighty Power of God. And as touching such worldly Estate wherewith it has pleased God to bless me in this life. I give devise and dispose of the same in manner and form following that is to say in the first place.

    I give and bequeath to Elizabeth my dearly beloved wife, while she lives the house and household goods and Plantation where I now live together with one Negro Wench named Flower. All my stock of horses, Cattle and hogs, to dispose of as she thinks proper, for the bringing up and schooling of the youngest children, and after her death the Plantation to be equally divided between my two youngest sons, Joseph and John. It is also, I give to my eldest son, Richard 320 acres of land joining the upper side of the Plantation I now live on and one Negro fellow named Cubben, to him, his heirs and assigns.

    Also, I give to my son Benjamin 300 acres of land lying on the South West of the river opposite to the land I gave to my Son Richard and one Negro Wench named Clarender to him and his heirs its also. I give to my Son James 150 acres of land joining the back of the land I gave to my Son Richard and one Negro Wench Flora. After his Mothers death to him and his heirs its also to my Joseph, One Negro boy named Sippie to him and his heirs.

    I likewise constitute make and ordain my beloved wife Elizabeth and my Son Richard my only Executrix and Executor of my last will and Testament, all and both of them by me, and I do hereby utterly disallow, revoke and disannul all and every other former Testament, Wills and Legacies, bequests and Executors by me in any way before the time named and bequeathed ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last Will and Testament.

    In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and Seal the day and year above written.
