    Willis Singletary was born 1794 in Bladen Co., NC, and he died after 1870, probably in Panola Co., TX. He married (1) Mary Wood, born about 1795, in Bladen Co., NC, and she died about 1831 in Robeson Co., NC. Willis and Mary bore eight children, all born in Bladen Co., NC. After Mary Wood Died, Willis married (2) Maulsey “Mollie” Hester, born 1809, in Bladen Co., NC, and she died about 1865, probably in Panola Co., TX. Willis and Maulsey bore ten children in NC, and after their youngest was born in 1852, Willis and Maulsey moved to Panola Co., TX, in about 1855 with their own children and a son, Eli Singletary by Willis’ first marriage.

    It is documented that Willis was in Panola Co., TX in 1858, in the Beckville area. His name was on a land purchase transaction for 2 acres for $5.00 purchased from Isaac R. Youngblood, to build a school for the Youngblood or Beckville Communities. It was to be built on Grand-Bluff Road.
    The place of burial of three children of Willis and Maulsey are known: son, Francis (Franklin) Singletary and his wife Martha Elizabeth “Lizzie” Dillard are buried in Walton Cemetery, near Beckville, in Panola Co., TX; son, Andrew David Singletary and his wife Amanda Ann Middleton are buried in Youngblood Cemetery, near Beckville; daughter, Amelia “Milly” Singletary was buried with her husband George Wesley Armstrong, in Sugar Hill Cemetery.

    There is no record of Joseph receiving Land Grants in North Carolina. However, he did own land in the vicinity of his brothers Richard's and William's lands that he received by Warrant dated May 28,1738. Certified October 1, 1738. Directed to Richard Hillyer, returned November 18, 1738. "500 acres on ye NW of Joneses Creek being about 2 miles above ye said Joneses Mill and running up both sides ye Creek for ye Compit".     In a book by Wanda S. Campbell titled "Abstracts of Wills Bladen County, North Carolina (1734-1900) published 1962;lists the following entry on page 81:
    "JOSEPH SINGLETARY JULY 4, 1772. NOVEMBER COURT 1772.

    WILL OF JOSEPH SINGLETARY

    In the Name of God Amen the fourth Day of July in the year of our Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred and Seventy Two, I, Joseph Singletary of the County of Bladen and Province of North Carolina being of perfect Mind and Memory and understanding do make and ordain this my Last Will and Testament.

    Imprimisses: It is my will and I do order that in the first place all my just debts and funeral charges be first paid and satisfied.

    Item: It is my will and desire that my children shall be schooled out of my whole estate what ever my Executors hereafter mentioned shall think sufficient.

    Item: It is my will and desire that my beloved wife Mary Singletery enjoy my whole estate both real and personal during her widowhood except the schooling of the children but in case she marryes that immediately after that she is to have one third part of all the remainder or my moveable or personal estate laid off to her by my Executors hereafter mentioned to her and her heirs and assigns forever.

    Item: It is my will and desire the other two thirds of my personal estate likewise all my real estate be equally divided amongst my children when the youngest arrives to the age of fourteen years old.
    But in case their mother is then living in widowhood then the real estate is not to be devided while she remains in that state to them their Heirs, Executors, Administrators and assigns forever.

    And I do hereby utterly disallow, revoke and disannul all other former wills by me made, and I do declare this and no other to be my Last Will and Testament and I do hereby nominate, ordain and appoint my two brothers, Benjamin Fitzrandolph and Ithamar Singletary to be my true and lawful and whole Executors of this my last will and testament.

    In witness where of I have hereunto set my hand and seal the Day and Year first within written.

    Jonathan was associated with Governor James and Colonel Maurice Moore as members of the "Goose Creek Faction" in the Tuscarora Indian Expeditions of 1712 and1713 in North Carolina. He witnessed a deed of conveyance of 200 acres of land in Chowan Co., NC in 1716. His descendents established the North Carolina line of the Singletary family.

    NOTE 2./ His wife died at Charleston SC on 25 Feb 1732.In St. Thomas & St. Denis Church records. Possible 2nd marriage to Hellena ? in Cape Fear area. Land grant in SC 16 Aug. 1705, was in Chowan Co. NC 31 Oct 1717. Lived in Winyah, SC in 1739 but gone before 1755.
