    . THE HAYNES FAMILY of Brimfield were descendants of Walter Haynes, a linen weaver of Sutton, England, who was one of the first proprietors of Sudbury. His son John, born in England, was the father of 11 children, one of whom Peter had 2 sons, Peter & Joseph, among the original proprietors of Brimfield. Jonas Haynes, who came some years later, was a son of Daniel, & cousin of the 2 first settlers. He married Peter's daughter Mary, & lived on what was then called the East Hill. … Mercy Haynes married Abner Mighel, Jan 4, 1776.

    . Abner Miles was Richmond Hill's first storekeeper & manufacturer, with a shop & ashery at the intersection of Yonge Street & Major Mackenzie Drive. He received the patent for his land in 1803. He also ran a small inn in connection with his shop, making him the first Richmond Hill innkeeper.

    . Abner Miles was the first occupant of this land, receiving the patent in 1803. Upon the death of his son James, Abner's various properties were divided among his three daughters. Elizabeth (Miles) Arnold & her husband John R. Arnold acquired Lot 46. James Miles had given land for a school & the Presbyterian Church & the Arnolds deeded lands for the Anglican Church. Well-known Richmond Hill businessmen on this lot over the years were Matthew Teefy (postmaster & village clerk), William Myers (saddler), Francis McConaghy (shoemaker), John Palmer (hotel keeper), Jerry Smith (watchmaker), & William H. Pugsley (butcher).
