    IN THE NAME OF GOD "AMEN"

    Knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die, being weak in body but in perfect mind and memory, thank God for the same. As for what worldly goods it hath pleased God to bless me with, it is my wish to dispose of as follows, Viz:

    First it is my wish that my funeral expenses and just debts be paid.

    Item. I give and bequeath to my Son, John H. Singletary, with some exceptions hereafter named the one Mority of the land I now live on and the Cattle that was given to him by his Grandfather, John Hester. Also twenty five acres back of Wilkeson Lake.

    Item. I give and bequeath to my Son, Ephriam Singletary, two hundred acres of land on the Rayford Swamp, and cattle given to him by his Uncle Ephriam Hester.

    Item. I give and bequeath unto my Son Thomas Singletary two hundred acres of land on Harrison Lake, also twenty five acres back of where I now live.

    Item. I give and bequeath to my daughter Mary Singletary a Negro boy named Lewis.

    Item. I give and bequeath to my daughter Hannah Singletary a Negro boy named Aleck.

    Item. I give and bequeath to my Son, Daniel H. Singletary the one Mority of the land where on I now live, also twenty acres on the bank of Wilkesons Lake. My Son, John H. Singletary is to support and educate my Son Daniel Singletary until he arrives at the age of twenty one years, and after said John H. Singletary fails to comply with my Will, my Son Daniel is to be taken by my Executor from him, the said John H. Singletary and claim from him, the said John H. Singletary a sufficiency for his education and support.

    All the property not Willed, or left as legacies to be sold by my Executors, and the money arising from the sale is to go to – viz: John H. Singletary, Thomas Singletary, Mary Singletary, Mary Singletary and Hannah Singletary. If any should remain to be equally divided between all my children, John, Ephriam, Thomas, Mary, Hannah and Daniel.

    I constitute and appoint my worthy friend William Roberson, John Hendry and John H. Singletary, Executors of this my Last Will and Testament.

    I, Thomas Singletary, aforesaid, do make this Codicil to my Last Will and Testament which is to say:

    Article First: I will and bequeath unto my wife, Jane Singletary, called Jane Wilson whom I have married since making the Will to which this Codicil is annexed: one cow and calf, ten Sows and pigs, together with all the property both real and personal that came to her by me, or my intermarriage with said Jane Wilson.

    Article Second: I will and bequeath unto my Son, Thomas Singletary one hundred acres of land, it being the balance of the three hundred of which two more given to him in my preceding Will and Testament:

    The last Will and Testament of John Hester dec'd proved in open court by the oath of Thos. Hester Jr. one of the subscribing witnesses thereto, in the following words and figures to Wit:

    In the name of God Amen. I John Hester of the state of North Carolina and the County of Bladen being in sound and perfect mind and memory Blessed be God this 5th day of March In the Year of Our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred Thirteen make and publish this my last Will and Testament, manner following,
    That is to say First I give and bequeath to my youngest Daughter Hannah a negro girl by the name of Clarycy, Secondly I give and bequeath to my son Ephraim Hester the plantation now live on also the Smith Land joining also a new entry joining that. Thirdly I give and bequeath to my son John Hester
    the Kinlaw plantation. to my daughters Comfort, Sarah Mirium, Hannah, I give and bequeath the remainder of my land to be equally divided and the ballance of the negroes to be equally devided between all my children except Hannah. Also I give and bequeath to John McRee one cow and calf and the remainder of my property to be equally divided between all my children.

    I also will that my wife Comfort shall live on the plantation her life time and also to have negro Gin to wate on her her life time and that she shall be maintained out of the whole of the property and I hereby make and ordain my other children Thomas Hester and John Hester and Ephraim Hester Executors of
    this my last will and testament in witness whereof I the said John Hester have to this my last Will and Testament set my hand and Seal the day and year above written.
