  1. 2.  Daniel D CALLAGHAN was born in Oct 1835 in Marysville, Tyendinaga Twp, Hastings County, Ontario (son of Daniel C (Sr) CALLAGHAN and Johanna Catherine DESMOND); died on 23 Apr 1918 in Marysville, Tyendinaga Twp, Hastings County, Ontario.

    Lived on the 5th Concession in Read parish

    Some of the descendants of Daniel D. Callaghan spelled their name without the'g'.
    This is thought to have been the result of the spelling of the family name by the priest at St. Charles Borromeo.
    The new spelling stuck, and the shortened form became standard for several of his children, particularly that of William Callaghan.
    Dan Callaghan was quite a successful farmer, and a man of no little means for his day.
    He was quite well-off and highly respected within his community, perhaps the most affluent of any of our Callaghan ancestors.
    In 1870, he bought 100 acres of land Con 4 Lot 14, and a further 80 acres of land at Con 4 Lot13.
    Both of these properties eventually passed on to his son, Denis James.

  1. 4.  Daniel C (Sr) CALLAGHAN was born in 1797 in Ovens, Cork, Ireland (son of Cornelius CALLAGHAN and Ann TAVERNER); died on 3 Mar 1863 in Marysville, Tyendinaga Twp, Hastings County, Ontario.

    Notes:

    Daniel emigrated with his older brother Thomas, followed 10 years later by their nephew Cornelius (eldest son of Denis. Denis emigrated in the mid 1840's.

    Daniel held the original Crown Patent for 100 acres at Con 3 Lot25 S%, deeded on May 16,1843, property which he had been settled on for some 10 years.
    The land at Con 3 Lot25 eventually passed to his son Denis (Big Din) Callaghan.
    In 1834, the Hastings Militia rolls list Daniel as then living at Con 2 Lot25. This land was eventually passed down to Big Din's only surviving child, Johanna (Murphy).
    This family emigrated to Marysville in about 1826. They had six children:
