"Margaret FARMER was born March 28, 1870 in Bythswood, Glasgow Scotland. She was the illiegitimate daughter of Agnes FARMER. Agnes was the daughter of Thomas Farmer and Mary Campbell.
Shortly after her birth Maggie was adopted by Andrew SHANKIE and Margaret CUNNINGHAM, Andrew worked as an iron moulder and the family lived at #5 Burnside Buildings in the Milton District of Glasgow.
Andrew passed away not too long after that, and his widow then remarried. Eventually Margaret was not wanted and she was placed in the City Orphans Home at James Morrison Street on April 4,1882.
Margaret was sent to Canada on May 26,1882 and would have been sent to the Marchmont Home in Belleville. From there she was placed with Levi and Eliza Varney in Bloomfield."

Margaret Shankey became the adopted daughter of the Varneys, see the book "Quaker Days and Quaker Ways" which refers to the Varney Family.
Eliza Hollingsworth Jones - born Sep 30/1829 in Picton.
Her parents were John Jones of County Wexford, Ireland - born Mar 20/1795, and Abigail Richmond Cunningham - born in Hallowell on Aug 26/1809.
She met Levi Varney and they were married on Jun 16/1848 in Bloomfield at the Friend's Meeting House.
By 1881, Levi and Eliza Varney were running the West Lake Boarding School.
In 1882, Levi and Eliza built a 3rd Meeting House in the Village, on the west side of the town of Bloomfield.
Eliza Varney died on April 26/1915 on Big Island. Her funeral was held in Picton two days later.

1. Hubert GOODMURPHY was born on 24 Aug 1893 in Hillier, Prince Edward County, Ontario, Canada; died on 1 May 1966 in Picton, Hallowell Twp, Prince Edward County, Ontario, Canada.
2. Helena Varny GOODMURPHY was born on 16 Oct 1898 in Bloomfield, Hallowell Township, Prince Edward County, Ontario, Canada; died on 22 Feb 1994 in Trenton, Sidney Twp, Hastings County,Ontario,Canada.
3. Dorothea Isabel GOODMURPHY was born on 23 Feb 1900 in Hillier, Prince Edward County, Ontario, Canada; died in 1992.
4. Lenora Eliza GOODMURPHY was born on 22 Aug 1906 in Hillier, Prince Edward County, Ontario, Canada; died on 6 Apr 1993 in Picton, Hallowell Twp, Prince Edward County, Ontario, Canada.
