Catherine (daughter of Murtagh (Murt) CALLAGHAN and Hanorah RYAN) was born on 2 Nov 1850 in Marysville, Tyendinaga Twp, Hastings County, Ontario; died after 1906 in Langdon, Cavalier County, North Dakota, USA. Notes:

The 1901 Census has Catherine as the head of the household, with her 2 children.
Catherine was baptized on 12/21/1850 at Holy Name of Mary Church in Marysville, Ontario

Michael and Catherine farmed lands, both in Tyendinaga and in nearby Richmond rownship.
In 1882 they were living in Tyendinaga on con 8 Lot 28, and a few years later they were listed at con 8 Lot 30.
After Michael's early death, Catherine was left a young widow with two small children to raise.
In 1906 she moved toLangdon, North Dakota with her married daughter Mary Ann Hunt, where many of her Marysville friends and relatives had also settled.

Not known when Thomas emigrated to Canada
Thomas farmed in Richmond Twp, living in a Log house.
Hanora is listed as a widow at the time of the 1881 Census, so Thomas died before that Census.

Mortimer Callaghan also known as Murtmer/Murth/Murty/Murtagh.
Several land record documents record it as 'Murtagh' and as this is the original Irish form,

With a number of small children to raise, the widowed Murt badly needed a woman in the house.
His second wife was already a widow when he married her.

He purchased 50 acres of land at the W Half Con 5 Lot 36 on Dec 14, 1856 - land which was later deeded to his son Denis under the terms of his will, on 09 Jul 1884.
Murt died of Dropsy (swelling, affecting the heart)
