    1981 Aug 5 - Samuel Horace Jones, 79, died Monday at Lyons District Hospital. Born Nov 24, 1901, at Lyons, He married Mary Vermillion July 10, 1932, at Greensburg. He was the retired editor of the Lyons Daily News & was a longtime resident of the area.
    He was the past director of the Kansas State Historical Society; co-founder of the Rice County Museum; past director of the Lyons Chamber of Commerce; past member of the Lions Club & Kiwanis Club, all of Lyons.

    Survivors: widow, of the home; son, Paul, Lyons; daughter, Mrs Carolyn Sayler, Lyons; 5 grandchildren.
    Funeral will be 10:30 am Thursday at the Sillin-Crawford-Miller Funeral Home, Lyons; the Rev Jay Anderson. Burial will be at the Lyons Municipal Cemetery. Friends may call from 1 pm until 9 pm.

    LYONS, Kansas - Mary R. Jones, 79, died Aug. 29, 1982, at Lyons District Hospital, after a long illness. Born Mary
    Vermillion,
    Oct. 19, 1902, at Lyons. She married Horace Jones July 10, 1932, at Greensburg. He died Aug. 3, 1981. She was the retired publisher & part owner of the Lyons Daily News, & was a lifetime Lyons resident.
    She was a member of United Methodist Church, Lyons.
    Survivors: son, Paul, Lyons; daughter, Carolyn Sayler, Lyons; brother, Paul, San Diego; five grandchildren.

    Funeral services for Mrs S H Jones, 79, mother of Paul Jones, & Horace Jones of the Lyons News, & sister of John D Heinly, 706 East Third, will be held in Lyons this afternoon at 4 o'clock.
    Mrs Jones died early Tuesday morning after an illness of about a year. She was a pioneer of Rice county, coming with her parents, Mr & Mrs J R Heinly, to a farm southeast of Lyons in 1877. She was married to S H Jones, Lyons attorney, in 1881. Two daughters, Mary Alice Jones, Lyons, & Mrs C R Wakefield, Chicago, also survive.
