  1. 2.  John Byron GOODMURPHY was born on 3 Oct 1865 in Ameliasburgh Twp, Prince Edward County, Ontario, Canada (son of WILLIAM HENRY GOODMURPHY and Catherine Jerusha TRUMPOUR); died on 6 Dec 1925 in Montreal, Quebec; was buried on 9 Dec 1925 in Belleville, Thurlow Township, Hastings County, Ontario, Canada.

    Notes:

John Byron was an only child, he married an Ida Alberta Young on March 5, 1889 in Ameliasburg.
They had 6 children, he left the family when the children were young and moved to Montreal where he died in 1925.
According to Kathleen Lina, her father split from his wife Ida, when Kathleen was a small child, because he drank to excess.
He left his family and moved to Montreal. He died in Montreal, but is buried in the Belleville Cemetery beside his wife.
He is buried in Plot R, Section 8, Grave 94, Cons. 1162.

The story goes, that John Byron took his daughter Leila Muriel to Rochester, N.Y. to live with her older brother Percival. Sometime before October 1920.

Ida Alberta Young was the daughter of William Andrew Young and Margaret Ann Vail. She was born in Consecon, Ontario.
She was buried in the Belleville Cemetery on Nov. 4th,1957. - Plot R, Sect. 8, Cons.1162.

William Andrew Young was a carpenter and fisherman. He was stern, strict, and stout-hearted.
Margaret Ann Vail was Welsh, a lovely fair skinned, meek person.
They had 6 children: Emmaline, Amanda, Ida, John, Letitia, and Edith. They lived in Consecon, Ontario.
Ida eventually lived in Carrying Place - just down the road.

    Murphy vs Goodmurphy
Note: John Byron may have gone by the surname Murphy, as did some of his children.
Much of the information retrieved from Ancestry.Ca has recordings under the surname "Murphy".
However, I do note that the Marriage Notice for Netah Grace, has her surname as Goodmurphy, and her parents as John B Goodmurphy and Ida Young Goodmurphy.
According to Lelia Muriel's descendants, she elected to use the surname Goodmurphy.
The older Census records tended to use, for example: John G Murphy.
I have elected to use the Goodmurphy surname for the whole family, John Byron's grandfather John C. eventually went by that surname. John C.'s older brother Lawrence went by Goodmurphy. So did the youngest brother Francis. Whether Murphy or Goodmurphy, they were all blood-related.

    Notes:

No record of William at Salem, I don't know when he died, but am told that he died after an accident with a threshing machine.
He was brought into the farmhouse from the fields, but the injuries were so severe that he bled to death.
The 1861 Census has him listed as Single, and living in Ameliasburg Twp.
Caroline was the daughter of Jacob Carnrike (1802-1882) and Mary Parliament (1806-1887) and was an older sister to Selim Carnrike, who married Wm Henry's sister Deborah Ann.
Caroline is buried in Salem Cemetery. The headstone reads May 7, 1856 but the stone is broken in to two pieces. There is a another piece nearby, which reads 21 years and 1 month, and I presume this to be related to Caroline. The birth and death dates were provided by Cheryl Carnrike.

William Henry and Catherine were married on February 26, 1861.
Catherine was the daughter of Sylvanus Trumpour (Aug 1804 - March 1, 1875 of Hillier Twp) and Susan Holt (1807-___). Sylvanus was the son of Paul Trumpour, born 1781 in Rhineveck, NY and Catherine Doxsee, born about 1783 in ____________.

The 1866 County Directory listed Wm Henry under Hillier Township on the 1st Concession Lot 32H. I believe that he may died that summer of 1866.
Catherine was remarried to a John Bishop of Sophiasburg on September 30, 1867.

    Notes:

Last known record of Catherine Hawkins so far, is that she was living in Winnipeg, Manitoba with her son James Burton Bishop. This was per the 1916 Census. The address at that time was 260 Spence.
I am assuming that sometime between the 1901 Census and that the 1911 Census, that they moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba.
One could assume that this happened after the death of Willet Dorland Hawkins in August 1907.
