. First Ecclesiastical Society in Enfield ( SHAKERS) 1770-1849
In Enfield until 1770 the parish lines were the town lines, the Society voters were the town voters & all society business was done in town meeting.
. A time of Remarkable Sickness & Mortality in this Town with Longfeaver [typhus].
1770 Aug 23 - when see fit to build a meeting house it should not he moved out of the Street­ … meetings warned by notifications at Taverns & Mills.
. Committee to uniting the 2 societies into one, inc. Lt Nath Geer. Ensign John Simons, Jun. Voted Shubael Geer shall pay what his rate would have been.

. [BARTER RATE]: Payment for building a Meeting House to be made in Indian Corn at 2shillings per bushel, Wheat at 4s/per bu.; Rye at 3, Port at pence per county, beef fit to Barrel at 2 p., Tobacco if raised by the hand that presents it for his own rate at 18s. per Hundred. Money always to be accepted instead if any person desires to cart each to the banks to Meeting House.

. 1772 Jul 9 - First Society Meeting convented.
. 1774 Oct 3 - Meeting Enfield, voted & chose Ensign John Simons to a 2nd. committee for the year ensuing. At the same meeting voted Mr. Isaac Kibbe have Liberty to put the Step Stones next May & Ens. John Simons be a Committee to finishing the meeting house & to say whither it be done according to garaging & to say shat step stones shall be at the Steeple door. Mr. Kibbee directed to lay a double floor in the new meeting house.
. Regulate seating young men to be seated at 16 & young women at 14 years old.
. 1784 Aug 30, Eliphalet Terry, Moderator, Capt. Ephraim Pease procured & presented a bell for the public Utility of a Meeting. It shall remain entirely for their use, excepting for Death & Funerals when the whole Town may have the Privilege of said Bell.

. 1775 Apr 19, Wed. News of the opening Battle of Lexington reached Enfield on Thurs. afternoon Apr 20, 175. Isaac Kibble kept the tavern near the church & soon as the messenger arrived, Kibbe procured a drum & Thos Abbe beat the long roll about the Meeting House. The church meeting was broken up by this Abbe's drumming. the next morning 75 of Enfield Minute Men march for Boston, each with his flint-lock musket & powder horn. the Long Roll are Maj Nathaniel Terry, Lieut. Richard Abbe, Capt. John Simons, & Corporals John Simons, 2nd., & Elusha Geer.

Sarah (daughter of Shubael GEER, Sr. and Sarah ABBE) was born on 5 Jan 1704 in Enfield, Hartford Co., Connecticut; died on 20 Jul 1751 in Enfield, Hartford Co., Connecticut; was buried in Enfield Street Cemetery. Sarah is the daughter of Sarah Abbe & Shubael Geer who is the son of Deborah & Thomas Geares (Geer). Sarah is the cousin of husband, Titus Simons.

> In the Enfield Street Cemetery lies a beautifully monument, short but a wide stone, perhaps reburied deeper (?)

Very clear inscription reads:
Here Lyesy Body of Mrs Sarah Simons
wife of Mr John
Simons who died
July 20th 1751 in the
47 year of her age.
Above in inscription there appears a round face with wide eyes, curly hair & a necklace & surrounded with feathers.

William Simons.1 married Sarah Hadlock, b Sep 1659, Salem, Essex Co., Massachusetts - 1739 Enfield, Connecticut.
They are both buried in Enfield Street Cemetery. Conn.
Originally Enfield was part of Massachusetts, but later was transferred to Connecticut.

. Enfield, Hartford Co. was established in 1749 & was part of Massachusetts. Enfield became part of Connecticut Colony in 1749. William Simons land was between Thos. Geer & Nathaniel Norton farms. It was not far from the beginning of the Town of Windsor.

. 1687 At a meeting of the committee upon the desire of the inhabitants:
Granted to Wm. Simons, the inhabitants admitting him & desiring him, 35 acres of field land & acres of meadow & a home lot of 12 acres provided he settle thereon in a 12 month & continue 7 years & it is granted to him his heirs & assigns forever, he attend­ing to all the orders of the place.

William Simons Besides his home lot lying betwixt John Burroughs & Thomas Geers home lots which is Recorded in page 25 & is 12 acres, is further possessed By grant & measuring it out to him (Viz) 1703 he is also possessed of a lot lying in the south Field in the river Division Containing 10 acres more or less, the length 80 rods & Breadth 21 Bounded North with Shubel Geers & south with James Pease, East with the Country road & west with the Great river. . 1708 he is possessed of his 2nd division lying near the mountains which lyeth in 2 peaces ye 1"'peace is 30 acres more or less the length is 160 rods & breadth 30 Bounded west on Common Land, East on John Howard south on the Highway North on Common Land.
The other piece is 60 acres more or less ye length is 160 Rods the Breadth 60 Bounded west with Wm Hulburd East with the Bald Mountain south with ye Highway North with Commons.
. 1710 also of A Schantuck lot which is Bounded with Nathl. Horton south with Ephraim French North, & East & West with the Hills it is 7 acres more or less.
He is further possessed of Land lying in the south field in ye 3rd Division which land he posseseth partly on the Town grant and partly on his grant by the Committee, this land lyeth For 40 acres more or less, the length is 120 rods breadth is 55 Rods Bounded west by the Abbes south by James Ferman the Ends by the Highway that lies between the divisions.

. Next the lot of William Simons lies on the south the lot of Thomas Geer Lot 2 rods in breadth and in length 160 rods from the street on the east back to the Great [Connecticut ] River on the west side. John Burroughs on the other side of him.
. Wm Simons 3 Acres of meadow, 4 acres of field land.
. Ordered also that those persons returned who neglected their days in cutting bushes in August last according to warning, shall make good and perform a days work for the same in cutting bushes on the commons where the select men shall appoint them, some time about the full of the moon, in June next. Thomas is the son of Mary & John (Jonathan) Abbe.

> At an early age, their uncle, in order to obtain possession of their property, arrange to ship the 2 boys to America.
George & brother Thomas were left orphans hen quite young & were brought up by their uncle, and as they were heirs to a considerable estate it was the desire of their uncle to remove them out of the way that the inheritance might be his. To enable him to realize his wishes without hindrance, he wrote to the captain of a ship about to sail for America, requesting him to take the lads with him. George and his brother were sent with the letter, with orders to remain on board until they received an answer. They remained as directed, but to their surprise, while waving, found themselves victims of deception & carried on their passage without the possibility of returning.
The above facts I received from meatier, Thomas Geer, but mostly from Joseph Geer, grandson of George, when I was 15 y of age. Signed, Jephthan Geer.
The boys were then put on shore in a new country without money or friends.
In his old age Thomas w was a steady & worthy inhabitant. The property of Thomas remained in the same name until 1796 when, as appears from record, Elihu Geer disposed of his house & lands and removed, since which time there is no record of any descendants residing in Enfield.
