    Lewis Neff was an entrepreneur. He built the first electric plant in the area and supplied the town of Syracuse, IN with their first electricity. He also had a cement factory in Syracuse. He also owned 6-7 gasoline stations and owned a hotel in Miami, FL. When the stock market crashed in 1929 he lost it all. This all was obtained by William Neff from Harold Neff, the great-grandson of Lewis.

    Co., VA Jan 9, 1830. Drove to Indiana with his father in 1852. When he left VA he was given money by a Mr. Galloway to assist
    a Negro colony at Niles, Michigan. The colony was composed of ex-slaves. 1854 married Lydia Whitehead. Family 4 sons and 1
    daughter. Members of the Brethren church in 1862.
    Elected to the ministry in 1871 and an elder in 1888. Moved to Goshen in 1886. Both moved to Syracuse in 1902 where they lived
    until death. Funeral Sunday morning at 10:30 preached by Rev. William Hess.
