Note: Absalom Willson's mother died at his birth. Mary Howe was presumably Absalom's wet nurse. - PJ Ahlberg. The Children of Peace was dissolved in 1889. Absolom Willson owned the Sharon Temple and Meeting Houses; he was one of heir last members. Absalom sold the Second Meeting House for lumber, the funds from which were supposed to pay for the upkeep of the Children of Peace cemetery. He initially gave the Temple to the Christian Church, in the hopes that they would start a congregation in Sharon and thus maintain the buildings. When they were unable to do so, they returned the Temple to Absalom. He sold the farm and Temple on his retirement, and the Temple was then sold to the York Pioneer Historical Society in 1917. His wife and children were members of the Church of England. He was a prominent Mason for more than 50 years, being first accepted in 1870; he had a perfect attendance record for 11 of those years even though he had to walk miles to go to lodge. he was master of the Sharon lodge in 1889, 1890 and 1896. Photo taken between 1901-1920 shows Absalom Willson, a healthy, smiling man in about 70 years, wearing a white shirt and white vest, stiff collar & tie, white beard, hat and is carrying a wood cane. E. F. WHITTEMORE, H. HOLTON. Ref: 10 December 1853. . 1915 OCT 29 - REV. C. McQuesten from his mother. - Yesterday we had a call from Holton Whittemore & his friend Jan Norman, who had come up to interview Gen. Logie. So they stayed for dinner & after phoning Mrs. Logie got the General at the club & he received them at head-quarters. They came back much impressed with his soldierly bearing, very stern at first, because he thought they were trying to get ahead of their superior officer in Toronto, but when they explained he was very nice. Holton said Reggie & his bride took tea with them the night before, so I sent off their present. I had got a very pretty plate with an open work silver border & a crown Derby Centre, very pretty we thought. . 1928 Jul 10 - Rev. Calvin McQuesten at Carleton, Quebec from his mother. We have been suffering great heat & glad you are away. Mary is now taking her turn learning to drive. On Sat.
