. Amos - Völkel Haus
The half-timber original house was one of the few buildings to survived the 1945 Allied WWII bombing of Erndtebrück. The house is an original half-timber building. The upper beams encircling this relative large building are inscribed the names of Amos - Völkel.

Erin /twp, but later owned farm at Lot 26 Con 1 Esquesint Twp. Retire 1923. 3 son & 1 dau remain: Ernest H of Toronto, Wm P of Detroit, Richard S, Munson Alta, Mrs Fred West, Erin Twp, 3 sisters also survive, Mrs James Grierson, Guelph, Mrs Wm Thompson, Georgetown, Mrs James Scott, Erin, Mrs near was a life long member of Baptist Church. Mrs Armstonrg sang The Old Rugged Cross, which had been Mrs Near's request. Interment Fairview Cem. 2 nephews Ernest & Wm. Near.

. 1938 May 18, Obituary: ERNEST H NEAR BUREID ON MONDAY was born in Erin & Attended Acton School.
Funeral services of Ernest H Near, president of the Larned-Carter Company of Canada, who died Friday, May 13, at his residence, 32 Northcliffe Blvd., Toronto, was conducted Monday afternoon in St. Clair United Church of which he was treasurer. Death was due to hemorrhage of the brain after 2 weeks' illness.
In his 57th year, Mr Near was born in Erin Twp., Wellington Co. He was educated at Acton & Chatham & started in business at an early age in Detroit. In 1919 he established in Toronto the firm of which he was the head.
He was a member of the Toronto Board of Trade, the Cdn Progress Club & vice-president of the Union Made Garment Manufactures of America.
Surviving are his widow, Ida: 2 sons: Ernest & Robert;
2 brothers William, Detroit & Richard, Munsson, Alberta & a sister Mrs. Fred West, Acton.

. 1809 - Pickering had a population of 187. A vote called & passed, hat no hogg shall be free corner except they will weigh more than 40 weight. Voted that no fence shall be lawful except it measure 4.5 ft. high & 2 feet at the bottom, the rails not to be more than 4 inches apart. Meeting closed until warned again.

John Lawrence of Darlington, blacksmith, appeared personally at the York General Quarter Session of Peace on 1819 April 13 & is recognized by Magistrate Pergrine Maitland to be the son of Richard Lawrence. He is upwards of 21 years as verily he knows.

Note3: Robt. Johnston was married John's sister, Margaret, in 1813.
