13909 | In researching at the LDS Family History Centre in Trenton, I found record of a Deborah Davis with parents named William and Jane. These parental first names seem to fit as John and Deborah named their oldest son William and their first daughter Jane. It is also interesting to note that the surname DAVIS is also listed as DAVIES.. Deborah appears on the 1842 Census for Percy Township - Lot 20 on Concession 5. There were two (2) married Females - Deborah, and maybe her daughter Margurete - not sure. Also there were two (2) single males - age 18 to 21. They would be Gilbert and Francis. There is one (1) male under the age of 5 - name unknown at this time. Also the Cenus records that Deborah had been in Canada for 20 years (1842 -20 = 1822). According to the Land Office Records, Deborah purchased the South Half of Lot 5 from William Forsyth and John B Forsyth on October 31,1844. Deborah then sold the South Half to her son Gilbert on March 18,1848. | DAVIS, DEBORAH (I28)

13913 | In the 1851 census of Tyendinaga Township (Page 75) , John McVicker (Vika) was 54 years old, born in Ireland, and Roman Catholic. His wife was Bedda (Bridget) McFaul, born in Ireland, age 52, and Roman Catholic. They both were from County Antrim in Ireland. The 1851 Cenus has three people listed as living in their one storey log house: Mary 20, Thomas 11, and James 9, all born in Ireland. The Marysville Parish record indicates that John was from Leyde (Layde) in Country Antrim in Ulster. Leyde is supposedly near Cushingall. It is likely that the family emigrated between 1842 and 1847. John lived on the 2nd Concession, part of Lot 25. John was born about 1797 in Ireland, and he may have died between 1865 and 1871. Bedda or Bridget was born about 1799 in Ireland and died about August 14 or 15 in 1859. She was buried in Marysville Parish Cemetery on August 17, 1859. Martin Doyle is listed as being one of the witnesses. There was a John McVicker who at 26 years of age was buried in the Marysville Parish Cemetery in August of 1847. It is not known who his family was, but he may have belonged to this family. For the purposes of this document we are assuming a connection. The Ontario Archives death records list a John McVicker as dying on March 8, 1879. The Ontario Archives death records list a James McVicker as dying on Aug. 8, 1880. The records show that this was a 1 day old infant, born in Shanonville, next of kin was a Patrick McVicker. Not sure of mothers name. | MCVICKER, John (I2369)

13919 | In the Netherlands, the Dutch did not use surnames until the time of Napoleon, or 1664 in New Amsterdam [New York] when England took control. The first known ancestor to New Amsterdam, New Netherlands, Herck Sybouts, used "Sybouts" as a person identifier, meaning "Herck, son of Sybout". Herck Sybouts children used the patronymic Hercx, Hercks, Herckse, Herckszen and his grandchildren adopted the surname Cranckheit, sometimes later shortened to Crank, Cronk & other variations. In the old Dutch language, the letter "C" was not used and so spelling on early records are seen spelled with "k", & "i' & 'j" are interchangeable and pronounced with same force. All this being explained, 1708 born and baptized Theunis [Hendrick-Theunis-Herck], born in Phillipsburgh, married Annetje Van Tassel, and resided in Phillipsburgh until he moved to Hopewell, Dutchess, New York sometime between 1741 & 1745. Theunis was living in 1758 but probably died before 1767 when his wife, Annatje, alone was sponsor at the baptism of their grand-daughter, Aeltje. Less | CRANCKHEYT, Theunis Johannis (I18318)
