. Survey General office, York 4 Feb 1812, to John Small, 1893.
Pursuant to the orders of Lieut. Gov. Gore of 23 Feb, 1810 respecting Land Claims. I have to state that according to Claim 43 of the Niagara Commission in May 1803, Joseph Felker appears to claim & has been allowed the south halves of Lot 33 & 34, Con 5, Gainsborough, containing 200 Acres from John Felker the original nominee.
The Minutes of Search made thereon by this office stated that Lot 33, Con 5 had been described for George Miller, the Secretary of the Province, has reported that the Patent for this Lot has been completed.
The Minutes of Search further stated that the sough halves of Lot 34 & 35, Con 5, Gainsborough, had been described of John Felker, under the authority of an Order in Council of 20 October, 1796 - in which year the Description issued - but I am not acquainted with the state of the patent upon this Description. Signed, Thos. Ridout, Survey General.

. I do herby verify that the bearer Jacob Filker, Joseph Felker, & Lodwick Felker has taken the oath prescribed by lat to have father & sure allegiance to Our Majesty King George Third. Signed, 7th Day of July, 1796, David Secord, J.P.
Note: Joseph's oath was filed with Ludwig Felker's Petition.
Envelope: Read in Council, 2nd OCT 1810. This difficulty hinges upon the point of authority in the Commission & the date of the patent to the original Nominee & should rest with others of a similar nature, depending upon the Statue of 1797 as is supposed, the Claimant is son & Heir of the original nominee, he inherits under the Patent & suffers no injury. Order accordingly. Entered in Land Book J, page 445.

. Erndtebrück 1256 - 2006, 750 years
Erndtebrück was first mentioned in documents in 1256. The State of Wittgenstein was first composed of the land east of Battenberg. A document from 1174 names a Count Werner of Wittgenstein, whose name comes from the castle near Laasphe. Even today Erndtebrück is considered to be a very remote hilly village in the upper Eder River valley. The road winds from west to east through the Eder & Befe Rivers. Fording the rivers was difficult when the rivers flooded. Thus name of the village, Erndte Bridge was an important toll bridge & a shorter route for the conveys of foreign traders & travelers. You could also save time by renting oxen to tow the wagons up the hill.

On old maps the highest point on the Wabrich is called, the Wagon castle. This was a shelter to put wagons while the animals pulled the convoy's next wagon up hill. This resting space on the mountain was a shield against the mist & fog & this looked like a castle when seen from the village below. In more recent years, the hill tops are now used as high pasture lands for cattle. There are also hunting blinds adjacent the tree line.

On the main road just outside of Erndtebrück there is a large cemetery. The cold falling rain prevented me from having a look there. PJ Felker (Ahlberg) October 2010. - - -

According to the description of Adam Bowlby, his grandson, he was the youngest son of a titled family holding entailed landed estates in England. Adam claimed that John was the only one of his family to emigrate and that the whole family of Bowlbys all over the United States and Canada at that time were descendants of his. He lived to be 99 years, 11 months and 20 days.

The article also referred to "Hannah Ray" as a sister of Thomas (therefore a daughter of John) but the handwritten note with corrections says that this person was, in fact, Nancy (Hawksworth) Reagh already listed in this family tree.

History of Belwood. In 1854 Mr Skeen built a mill, which was a great advantage as before this the pioneers were obliged to put 50 lbs. of wheat another backs & walk to Fergus or even sometimes to Guelph. When they goat oxen they felt they could with for nothing better. Mr. Dixon was the miller & all the farmers brought their wheat & oats to be ground into flour & oaten by water power.
Mr. Cyrus Sargent drove the mail & stage to Fergus for a time & used to blow a horn all the way down the street so everyone know when he arrived with parcels & mail.
There was a woolen mill where the wall as taken to the mill in fleeces. It was made in a roll about an inch across. You had to be very careful of these rolls. They were so soft & could easily be broken. The farmer took them home to his wife who spent many weary hours spinning them into yard. They made their dyes from different kings of baRk of trees in the bush.
