The 1861 Census has Dougald and his siblings living with an W Alexander McDonald (FEMALE)- age 40, born abt 1821. She was widowed.
I believe that Dougald's father John had passed away near to the time of the Census, and the children were sent to live with a relative.
The 1871 Census has Dougald and his siblings living in Cornwall with their widowed mother Isabella - age 50.

Dougald McDonald was the son of John McDonald and Isabella McGillis, of Lot1/7th Concession Caledonia Township, County of Prescott, in Parish of Lochiel.
Mary Cameron was the daughter of Duncan Cameron and Mary McDonald of Lot 11/3rd Concession Kenyon Township, County of Glengarry, Parish of Alexandria.

Dougald and Mary were married on May 13,1873 at St Finnans in Alexandria by Father John S. O'Connor
Present at the marriage were D D McMillan and Bella Cameron.

The Ontario Canada Catholic Church Records, Event Year 1866-1880, Place of Worship Alexandria, record that:
Donald John McDonald was baptized on Feb 16,1876. He was born on Feb 5,1876 to Dougald McDonald and Mary Cameron.
The baptism was performed by Rev. Father John S. O'Connor, Parish Priest at St Finnans Cathedral in Alexandria, Ontario.

Dougald deserted Mary and the boys on March 25,1877. Believed to have taken off to New York State.
At the time of the 1881 Census, as Mary is living with her widowed father at the Cameron family farm.
Mary moved to Alcona County in the fall of 1883 and on March 7, 1885 filed a Biil for Divorce with the Circuit Court for the County of Alcona, State of Michigan.
A court hearing was held on September 2nd and judgement was made on September 9th.

Mary Cameron was remarried to Dan Stewart on Sept 12,1885 in Black River, Alcona County, Michigan.
She had more children by Dan Stewart and in 1896 they moved to the Dakota Territory.
