Simon Meredioth married2, to Ann Pugh, of Bishops Castle, Shropshire, England & died 1748 Lancaster, . Nantmeal Township, Pennslvania, is a small, rural community with an interesting history. The area was originally populated by settlers from Radnorshire, Wales between 1700 & 1710. The settlers named the area Nantmell, or Natmel, meaning "sweet water" or "land of the sweet stream" in Welsh. In 1739, the area was divided into East & West Nantmeal. Yet again, in 1789, West Nantmeal was once more divided, with Welsh settlers remaining in West Nantmeal & the original Welsh settlers were followed by the Scotch-Irish in Honey Brook Township. One final division of the township occurred in 1852 when Wallace Township was divided form West Nantmeal. Ref: Historical Society of Pennsylvania. . Welsh Quakers settled in the area. Nantmeal, or Nantmel, first noted on County tax lists in 1717, was named after a village in Radnorshire, Wales, from where emigrated many of its earliest residents, such as the Merediths, Stephens & Griffiths. Similarities between the two towns are striking even today. Nantmel is Welsh for "sweet spring" or "honey brook." Welsh Quakers settled in the area. Interestingly, Polly Simons Monument was chiseled OVER a chipped & water marked stone, likely indicating the difficult of obtaining memorial stones at the time. 22034 | Singletary Family Genealogy Forum: Re: Benjamin Singletary - SC : by Richard Heath, July 04, 2001 < Martha Singletary that married James W. McKneely. Martha's father, according to this information, was Benjamine S. Singletary and her mother was Margaret Bunch. Martha had two brothers - one of them according to the information I received - was Lewis Singletary born between 1790 and 1800 in South Car9lina and died in East Baton Rouge Parish, Louisiana married to a Nancy McKneely on 21 May 1824 in Louisiana. Another, according to East Feliciana Parish Probate Records and Martha's marriage laicense to William Heathwas Benjamin Singletary. The probate records was for tutorship of her minor daughter Margaret Sarah McKneely (who married a Robards. The interesting part is that the entry was dated June 28, 1830 and her Marriage license to William Heath reflects June 29, 1830. Apparently June of 1830 was a busy year for her. Also, according to information received, her first husband, James W. McKneely's mother was also a Singletary, Sarah B, daughter of Thomas Singletary and Lydia An Perdriau. | SINGLETARY, Martha (I6632)
