. 1978 Walter McCutcheon donated to Wellington County Museum a stereoscope. Walter McCutcheon was a barn framer in Eramosa Township. The stereoscope was found at a barn raising. It is not apparent how this came into his possession:
Wooden stereoscope with two glass lenses. Edge which touches the face is lined with velvet. Front crosspiece which holds the stereoview card is missing. Brandname on back: "The Saturnscope" with patent countries and dates on back. The stereoscope allows the viewer to see the view card as though it were a 3-dimensional scene. The 3-D effect is created by the 2 scenes on the card being photographed at very slightly different angles. - -

. 1945 Camera Ace. Detroit Rises to Top in Hollywood as Expert in Trick Photography, By Jerry Ross.
Hollywood When it comes to magical sills, the folks who pull rabbits & bird out of hats will have to yield ground whenever Vernon L Walker, of Detroit, draws on his store of camera pics or motion picture. ferns, as he is called by his care cronies, heads the Special Effects Dept. at RKO studios.
Whenever there is some sort of storm, battle, or explosion needed in a scene, Walker is called into devise the desired effect so that Mr Mrs Movie Fan won't known the difference anyway. "We Really don't try to fool the public", explained the man who first learned about cameras when he was a schoolboy in Detroit. "The only time we dub-in our tricks is when the locale is inaccessible for us to shoot with our cameras or when it endangers members of the cast. Without the correct camera angles, the tick dubbing in & carefully planned methods of creating desired effects, the picture might do a blip back at the box offices.
Walker was born in Detroit some 50 odd years ago. As a young boy getting his education in local public schools & the Detroit University School, he displayed a deep interest in the movies & camera which were somebody to become his livelihood. "I used all my spending money in those days, going to the Detroit picture shows, the heave set, jovial RKO executive recalled. It was really in Denver that laker began his photographic career. He help pioneer the newsreel field in Colorado & Wyoming. Later he returned to Detroit where he became a free-lance newsreel photographer for Pathe News. He is credited with having turned the crank on some of the historic events in the city.
In 1919 the soft-spoken Walker, after a tour of Army duty, moved into the Hollywood scene as a Pathe newsreel man. He later worked with Mack Sennett, where he acquired his special effects kills, then Warner Brothers. At the latter studio he became one of the industry's first sound cameramen & shot Al Jolson's historic,The jazz Singer. Walker has been with RKO since 1930.
He & his wife live in Balboa, a beach town several miles from Hollywood. Walker's special hobby is boating & he is an official of several California yacht clubs.

More Lighthouse Lore, Editor,
I have the pictures, family Bible & chairs of the first man in the St. Joseph lighthouse, along with other things. One book has an article written & signed, by Gen. McAllen. I have his & his wife's picture.
My mother, Mrs. Viola Teetzel Lightner, was born in the light-house, Dec 28, 1860.
she lived there with her mother, Zelpha Chadwick Teetzel, father Lt. Charles W Teetzel & Teetzel grandfather, G B F. Chadwick. Gen. Chadwick married Capt. Lewis' daughter.

Gen. Chadwick was appointed by President Piece as superintendent of public works & later, keeper of the lighthouse, for his services as general in the state militia. He was a colorful orator & organizer during the Civil War. The lighthouse dated 1859 was built for the general & his family.
Gen. Chadwick's close friend, who lived near the lighthouse was Mathias Teetzel. He was the contractor of the canal between Benton Harbor & St. Joseph. He bought & sold wheat. His sister was the late Dr. John Bell's mother. [i.e. Mary Green Teetzel.]

Other places are restoring & moving back historical buildings & renewing their histories for students & to draw the tourist trade. I hope someone in St. Joseph has enough influence to preserve the lighthouse.
MRS. JACK J RUDELL, 2516 Pixley Avenue, St. Joseph Teetzel.

. 1954 May 25, A long article outlying the history of St. Joseph Lighthouse.
Supports of the Save he Light house movement in St. Joseph ..., Built in 1859.
Mrs. Jack Lightner Rudell, 2516 Pixley Ave., Mrs. Jenie Lightner Balfour, Watervliet, great grandchildren of the first keeper of the lighthouse, Gen. F F Chadwick. In their homes both women have many treasures of the old lighthouse's past: Photos of chair, a small chest Chas. W Teezel made during the Civil War for this wife, the chest is complete even to the traditional secret compartment.
Another famous person who lived in the lighthouse was Capt. Marshall Lewis, famous for his construction of the Erie canal.
Born in Lighthouse, the mother of the women, Mrs. Viola Lightner, was the first person to be born in the... house, the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Charles W. (Zipha Jane Chadwick) Teetzel.
She was born Dec. 28, 1860. Photos of Gen. Chadwick & Mrs. Viola Teetzel Lighter.

. 1965 May - 17 Long retrospect article on the old St. Joseph's lighthouse, which eventually was razed to make way for a parking lot. Photo of the old 2 story house, with a porch & a another story with the lighthouse atop the house.
