25688 | William B. Teeple, the eldest son, was born 28th January 1788, and was, like his father, an enormously big man, and a captain of Provincial Militia at the battle of Lundy's Lane. At the latter engagement he had, as an orderly, a French-Canadian of rather small stature who used to say to his towering commanding officer: "Captain Teeple you are a very big man, and when the fighting gets hot, I am going to get behind you". In actual warfare, however, the little French-Canadian exposed himself so fearlessly that he was mortally wounded early in the battle. A portion of the scarlet uniform worn by Capt. W.B. Teeple in that engagement, made up in the form of the quaint "knitting sheaths" of the period, is still in the possession of the writer, one of his grandsons. On the 4th January 1818 he was married to Jemima Leek, at Temperanceville, now Orwell, by Mahlon Burwell, J.P., and soon after settled on 200 acres of land being lot 1, concession 8, in the Township of Malahide, County of Elgin, the land being a grant from the Crown for military services rendered. He died on the 8th of April, 1857, leaving a goodly estate. His children in order of birth, were Jared Topping, Susan Celestia, James Jackson, Symantha J., Temperance Ursula, Lydia Ann, Stephen William, and Sarah, the last two being twins. Of these, Lydia Ann was married to James F. Waterbury on the 22 of June 1852, by Rev. Caleb Burdick, at Temperanceville. At this date (1899), she resides at Cambridgeport, Mass., and is the mother of the writer of these annals. | TEEPLE, William Bullard (I1323)

25700 | William Fielden, son of Dempsey & Sarah Fielden, was born Nov. 29, 1849, in Anderson County, Tennessee, & departed this life at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, 1941, at his home in Bolivar. While a child he moved with his parents to Texas County, Missouri. . 1878 Feb. 10, he was united in marriage to Nancy Elizabeth Myers at Ellis Prairie, Mo. To this union were born two children, Dora Fielden & Mrs. Lucy E. Smith (married Moss F. Smith of Mountain Grove, MO). During his 'teen age he believed in Jesus Christ as his personal Savior & joined the Hamilton Creek Missionary Baptist church. Many years later he was a charter member & deacon of the Success Baptist church. Upon moving to Bolivar he placed his membership in the First Baptist church. In 1940 he moved his membership to Calvary Baptist church of Bolivar. He was a patient sufferer for many years & suffered much during his last illness. He leaves in this world to cherish his memory the two daughters of the home & a host of nieces & nephews & their children, also many friends. His parents, all of his brothers & sisters, & his wife have preceded him to the Heavenly land. He lived to the greatest age of any in his family except his mother. At the time of his departure he was 91 years, 4 months & 10 days of age. In this life he was poor, always a man of moderate means, but through his personal faith in the death of the Son of God to atone for his sins he was made rich for eternity. The funeral services were conducted last Saturday afternoon, April 12, by the Rev. H. S. Rainwater & the Rev. J. A. Hook at the White & Erwin funeral chapel. The Scripture read was Job 5:7-26. The twenty-sixth verse, "Thou shalt come to thy grave in a full age, like as a shock of corn cometh in his season," was used as the sermon text. The message beautifully portrayed the goodness of God to them who have committed their souls unto Him & closed with Tennyson's famous poem, "Crossing The Bar." Comforting & faith-inspiring messages in song were rendered by a mixed quartet composed of Mrs. Audie Miller, Mrs. Leo Smith, Claud Marshall & A. A. Carter. The songs were "When They Ring Those Golden Bells," "The Unclouded Day" & "Safe In The Arms of Jesus." The pallbearers were Abe Waggoner, Frank J. Martin, A. Moffitt, Carlos Wilson, Lennie Wilson & Rev. Gordon. Out-of-town relatives & friends attending the service were Mr. & Mrs. W. B. Sheldon, Miss Hilda Todd & Mrs. Lois B. Carter of Springfield; Mrs. Eugene Eberhart of Ben Davis, & Mr. & Mrs. Wilbert Smith of Success, Mo. The body of Mr. Fielden was laid to rest beside his wife in the City Cemetery to await the resurrection of the redeemed, at which time death & the grave shall be wallowed up in victory. - - - | FIELDEN, William A (I64)
