6292 | Alan left school in 1930 and went to work for Wood, Alexander and James Ltd., a wholesale hardware company. After completing high school through evening classes at Central Collegiate Institute, he attended Hamilton Normal School (teacher's college) and taught in Hamiliton elementary schools until he joined the Canadian Army in 1941. After the war, he attended university and graduated with a degree in history. From 1951 until his retirement in 1973, he taught at Delta Secondary School in Hamilton. Since then, he has been active in the Hamilton Branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society and assisted for a few years at the Latter Day Saints (Mormon) Familty History Library in Hamilton.
