Posted by: Heather Selph:
I'm looking for the ancestors of Wright Mathews, b 1872 in Crawford Co, Ga. I've been told his father's name was Buck, but I'm not sure if this was his real name or a nickname. I don't know who his mother might have been. Wright married Clay Cody, the daughter of George Thomas "Tom" Cody and Mary Ann Childres. Wright died around 1926. I'd really like to find out more about his brothers/sisters/parents, etc. Any help would be appreciated!

. Headley Family History, Sources Mrs. Barbara Squire, 16 George St., Georgetown L7G 2K4 [1986.]
ANN MEREDITH, Mrs. Francis Headley was a sister of Jesse Meredith, Mary, Mrs Lewis Felker. The 3 families came from the Grimsby area together, having follow the Grand River to Big Falls (Elora); then the Irvine River to the Townline between Nichol Township & Garafraxa Township. From there they cut a track through the unbroken forest along 15 side road to the 6th line.

. Ann Headly had received her grant of land for 200 A on Dec 24, 1823, for Lots 18 & 19, W half, Con 7, 6th Line, Garafraxa Twp. It adjoined her sister's grant, & backed that of her brother, Jesse. The Patent was not received from the Crown until Sept 24, 1824. She qualified for a grant of 200 acres because she was the daughter of a U.E.L. She & her husband sold this farm in 1836.
On October 26, 1833, Francis Headley bought all 200 a. of Lot 11, Con 7, from the Canada Land Company. On March 24, 1844, he sold 150 acres of this property to John Alpaught Jr, the property that later became the Sam Boradfoot farm. In May 1846 Franics Headley sold 25 a. to James Nelson & it became part of the present site of Belwood, where Nelson Street was named after James Nelson. It would appear another 25 a. may have become the Garbutt Goodall farm. I have not found that fact yet.

. Healey appeared to be an UEL too & was something of a mover, for in January 1851, he purchased E half Lot 12, Con 5, Garafraxa, more recently known as Belwood Orchards, but he sold it in 1852. There is also record of Francis Headley, a Pioneer of Garafraxa, being a tenant of a pioneer sawmill in Fergus at a time.

. A grandson, Ernest Headley, 1890-1980, married Gladys Wilson, daughter of Billie Wilson & his wife Laura Jane Lougheed. Headless lived on the east side of St. Dvid St. N, Fergus, beside R.R. Track, C.P.R. Gladys Wilson had a brother who was the father of Donald Wilson, Assistant Clerk of Fergus.
