      . 1932 Sep 22, Bannockburn Women's Institute held their monthly meeting Sept 14.The program consisted of community singing & a spelling match, won by Mrs S J Swackhamer. lunch & conversation then was indulged in.

      War Effort:
      . 1941 Dec 25 - The Community Auction Sale held in Acton Town Hall for 2 night brought in $450 for the Red Cross & the Wr Services League. Auction of clothes hamper, Christmas cakes made by Acton Home Bakery, Lucky winners in the draw. [hundreds of donors, if not the whole of Acton, including:}
      Frank Swackhamer, C W Swackhamer & Stanley Swackhamer.
      Note: That was a generous war effort. $450 would buy a new house! -PJA

      . Victory C;lut Quilt Auctioned for $50 to Toronto Buyer:
      Woodside Victory Club held their social evening at the home of Mrs Frank Swackhamer on Friday evening The winners for the euchre were Mrs Balla Bilton, Frank Freeman; for crokinold Mrs Stewart Russell & Stanley Swackhamer. The ladies served a dainty lunch& a pleasant evening was enjoyed. The little flu also had a booth at C W Swackhamer's sale which realized a nice sum for the Red Cross. Five of their number made a quilt & auctioned it off to Jack Fraser, of Toronto.
