      . The house of Robt. P Johnston, Esq, Lot 2, Con 2, Erin, Lot 2, Con 2, was the scene of a very happy event on Friday afternoon last when Miss Margaret E, youngest dau. of Mr & Mrs. Johnston, became the bride of Mrs. Alex D Bridges, Secretary of the Carbondaler Lumber Co., of Coleman, Alberta.
      Ferns & carnations decorated the drawing room. At 1 o'clock to the stains of Lahangrain's wedding march, played by Mrs E H Near, of Detroit, the contracting parties took their places. The bride was given away by her father. She looked charming gowned in white duchess malian? & carrying a bouquet of bridal roses & lily of the valley.
      Miss Joan Heidgns? of Cranbrook BC, was bridesmaid & looked pretty gowned in blue silk & carrying a bouquet of pink carnations. Mr Basil O L Johnston supported the groom. Rev W H Douglas, pastor of the bride, performed the ceremony in the presence of the x relatives of the contracting parties.
      After receiving the congratulations of their friends, adjournment was mad to the dining room where a sumptuous wedding dinner was partaken of. The bride is one of the most highly x young ladies of this locality & was the recipient of many beautiful & costly presents including a check for a handsome x from the father of the parents.
      The bride's travelling dress was of blue ladies cloth with hat to match. The happy couple left on the 9 pm. train for Toronto, Niagara Falls & other points.

      There is x of romance? in this union of hearts. Miss Johnston, while on a visit to Cranbrook, became aquatinted with Mr. Bridges, who was a prominent x man of that place. The friendship then found room, love & thus the representative of this want & thus have been united in the holy bonds of matrimony. Mr & Mrs Bridges will shortly leave for their home in Coleman? where they carry with them the best wishes of a very large circle of friends.

      .1943 June 26, Johnston Families Hold Re-Union at Eramosa Home
      A very happy & enjoyable family picnic was pend at the home of Mr Mrs Wm. Gamble, Eramosa.
      The descendants of the late Mr Mrs Rober Johnston composed the gathering & represented 3 generations. 2 dau. of , Mrs Jas. H Reed & Mrs Wm. Gamble celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary during this year & one dau. Mrs A D Bridges from Cranbrook BC was able to be present, making the family gather ing a very pleasant occasion. The 82 who picnicked at Gamble home enjoyed the afternoon in various ways. The men of the second generation played ball, while the children were entertained by rides on a Shetland pony.
      A table on the lawn was spread with good things to eat & all enjoyed this part of the picnic. Recitations were given by some of the children & short speeches by the grooms of 50 years ago & by Rev Ward of Rockwood, who was present & took moving picture of the gathering.

      . 1965 Apr 7 - Mrs. Atlee Bridges Well-Known Locally
      The death occurred suddenly at Victoria, BC on April 7 of Mrs. Atlee Bridges, the former Margaret Ellen Johnston, well known to many of this district, in her 79th year.
      She was the daughter of the late Robt. Johnson & his wife Martha Leslie, & was born in Erin Township on the second line on the farm now owned by nephew, Elwood Johnston.
      She was married to her husband, Atlee Bridges, Cranbrook in 1910. They lived in Cranbrook for many years till they retired to Victoria 21 year ago.
      She leaves her husband at home, 3 daughters:
      Mrs. M. F McPherson of Abbotsford, BC,
      Mrs John Lowry &
      Mrs Hugh Oates of Singapore, Malaysia,
      a sister, Mrs Ida Near of Toronto,
      & 2 grandchildren. She was predeceased by 5 brothers, Richard, Charles, Robert, Frederick & Basil & 4 sisters, Miss Melissa Johnson, Mrs J H Reed (Lydia), Mrs W Gamble (Mary), & Mrs Nelles, (Julia).
      The funeral service was held on Friday, April 9. Interment was in Royal Oak Burial Park, Victoria.
