- Mrs. Alma Allen, well loved and highly esteemed Miller County, Georgia native died Tuesday, August 18, 1987 in Mobile, Alabama. Mrs. Allen was born February 16, 1896 to the late Smiley R. and Lucy
Mock Houston and had spent the most of her ninety-one years in Miller County. She was married to thelate Daniel J. Allen, Sr. Her funeral was held Friday morning, August 21, 1987 at New Hope
Baptist Church where she had been a member for over seventy-five years. Her pastor, the Rev. Terry Rainwater, conducted her memorial serviceand was assisted by her close friend, the Rev. Lewis Williams. Two beautiful and comforting songs were offered in her memory by the New Hope Church
Choir under the direction of Mrs. Jerry Harrell with Mrs. Emmett Mock accompanying on the piano.
Nephews who served as pallbearers were Julian Houston, Jerry Houston, Jimmy Wasdin, Paul Allen, Jimmy Everson and W.T. Henry. Her body was interred in the Houston Cemetery. Mrs. Allen is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Donald (LaVerne) Gallagher of Coral Springs, Florida and three sons, Smiley Allen of Waukesha, Wisconsin, Nathan Allen of Auburndale, Florida and Newton Allen of Fairhope, Alabama. Other survivors include fifteen grandchildren,nine great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, a brother, E.J. Houston of Jakin and a sister, Mrs. Oscar (Debbie) Wasdin of Blakely. Colquitt Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
