      . 1893 May 4 - Disappeared - William Ramsahw, an old resident of Acton, disappeared from his home last week clad only in his night clothes. He is supposed to have suicided.
      . 1893 May 13 - Local News. The body of Wm. Ramshaw, who disappeared on April 25, was found in Harvey's mill pond at Acton on Monday. On previous occasion he tried to drown himself in the same pond.

      . 1898 Jun 2, Crewson's Corners. Mr. Richard Johnston, a highly esteemed & prosperous young man of this vicinity was united in marriage to Miss Virena Ramshaw, of Kincardine, on Wednesday, May 25th, at Kincardine. They have now taken up their residence on his farm near her. We wish Mr. Johnston & his estimable bride many happy & prosperous years of wedded life

      . 1898 Jun 30 - The Kincardine Reporter describes the Johnston-Ramshaw nuptials as follows:
      "A very pretty wedding took place at the residence of Mrs. Ramshaw, Sweet Briar Farm near Barrie, on Wednesday evening, 25th May, when Mr. R L Johnson of Acton, was united in marriage to Miss Verena Ramshaw. The spacious residence was all illuminated & at the appointed hour Mrs. E A Hall commenced the wedding strains, & the bride & groom were soon in their positions. Rev Geo. McKay, M.D., was the officiating clergyman. After the ceremony & congratulations had been showered upon the happy couple, the guests numbering about 100 sat down to a rich repast under the beautiful orchard trees all aglow with varied colored blossoms, the order of which filled the air, & lighted up the lanterns of all shades & colors. A most entertaining program was placed in Rev Mr McKay's hands & engaged the attention of the company until after midnight. Among the guest from a distance were Miss Johnston of Acton, Mrs Frank Ramshaw & daughter Mary, Mr. Wm. Agnew & son George of Knatchall, Mr Thos. Ramsahw of Lobo, Mrs E Poole of London, Mrs Wade of California.
      The bride looked charming in an elegant cream cashmere trimmed with lace & chiffon, & wore a floral wreath. The presents received by the bride were magnificent & included the useful & ornamental, the friends thus testifying their high esteem for her. The following morning Mr & Mrs Johnston left for their home in Acton."

      . 1923 May 31, Crewsons Corners Reminiscences. The corner farm on the Eramosa sideways long known as The Forbes place. Through it runs the nice little stream which issues from a limpid pool on the Robert Johnston farm, between the 1st & 2nd lines Erin. The little creek east of the Corners must be the main stem from the Johnston place.by The Old Man of The Big Clock column.

      . 1948 May 27, Golden Wedding Anniversary of R L Johnstons' - couple Have Spent Half Century in Acton & District - Many friends called:
      Over 200 friends & relatives took advantage of the opportunity on Monday to call on Mr & Mrs Richard L Johnston at their home on Wilburn Street & offer congratulations on the occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary & to wish that they will enjoy many more happy years together. Many messages of congratulations were received all of them cherished but especially the one from His Excellence & Viscountess Alexander, from Rideau Hall, Ottawa. Mrs J C Smith 9f Windsor also conveyed congratulations by wire.
      Richard L Johnson & Vierna Ramshaw were married at Kincardine 50 years ago by Rev Geo McKay. The young couple settled on the farm of the First Line in Esquesing & farmed here with success until 20 years ago when they came to Acton where they have been esteemed residents.
      Mrs. M C Overholt of Toronto received the guests with her parents & Mrs Roy Johnston & Mrs J C Matthews welcomed the callers. Little Virena Johnston & Merle Overholt attended the door & Madeline Ulrich was in charge of the guest register. Mr. Robert Slay gave piano selections during the day.
      Pouring tea during the afternoon & evening were Mrs John Easterbrook, Mrs F S Blow, Mrs L Pickering, Mrs L E Hamelin Mrs. Ernst Near & Mrs A L Bridges. Those assisting Mrs Orwell Johnston in serving the guests were Mary Pellfer?, Margaret Blow, Joyce Amersualt? Netta Evans, Muriel Rolson, Mrs John Melxxant, Mrs Harry Murray & Mrs Jas. Adamson, Many beautiful flowers & plants decorated the home, most of them the gifts for the golden wedding event.
      Among the guests from out of town attending were Dr. & Mrs Howard Hamelin & family of Ottawa.       Mrs. R. L. Johnston Lived In District For Many Years:
      Widow of the late Richard Lawrence Johnston, Virena Ramshaw Johnston is widely mourned. She & her husband farmed in Esquesing & retired to Wilburn St., Acton. After his death over 5 years ago, Mrs. Johnston returned to the home farm at R.R. 1, where she went as a bride to live there again with her sons Orwell & Roy.
      She is also survived by 2 grandchildren, Mrs. George Cameron & Mrs. Walter Swantson & 2 great-grandchildren.
      A daughter Edna (Mrs. Melbourne Overhold),
      a brother Robinson Ramshaw (California),
      & 2 sisters, Mrs. W E Hamblin (Mabel), Toronto & Mrs. Robert E Johnston (Maude) of Rockwood (who married a brother of Mr. Johnston) predeceased her.
      Mrs. Johnson died at her home on Sunday, November 12, after just one day's illness. She was born at Kincardine & was married there in 1898.
      Funeral Tuesday. Funeral service was held Tuesday afternoon at the Rumley-Shoemaker Funeral Home conducted by the Rev. Dwight Engl. assisted by the Rev. Reginald Brook. Mrs. Johnston attended church faithfully when she was able & worked with enthusiasm in the W.A. & W.M.S. She had been on the executive of both groups. She had attended church just 2 weeks ago on anniversary Sunday. W.A. & W.M.S. member attended the funeral.
      Pallbearers were Lloyd Johnston, Elmer Johnston, Clarence Gamble, Ernest Near, Lorne Hamilton & Howard Hamlin.

      . The sympathy of the community is extended to Mr Richard Johnston & family in the sudden passing of his wife on October 9 hey were residents of Churchill before moving yo Acton. Mr. & Mrs. Charles Binnie & Mr. & Mrs. R L Davison attended with friend of the late Mrs. Johnston, the Butler Funeral home at Islington, on Friday evening, Oct. 11th. - died 9 Oct 1968.
