      Ordained an elder in St Andrew's Presbyterian Chruch by Rev John Laing in 1870.

      From Wikitree (info provided by Tom Loghrin) https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Jeffrey-366 "William and his family moved to Stratford in 1871[1] and bought out the Triller Bros. Hardware Store. He handed over the business to his sons in 1885 and he then devoted his time to insurance and accounting. William was a lifelong Reformer and always took a deep interest in public affairs. He was a Presbyterian and was, for many years, an elder in Knox Church.[2] William is interred in the Avondale Cemetery, Stratford, Ontario, Section L, Lot 045, Sublot 1.

      Undated newspaper article in Stratford says he and Andrew McLenhan bought the hardware business of Fuller Bros (located in the Fuller block). See Library/William Jeffrey (II)/Item 12.

      Funeral at his son-in-law's (Wm Preston) on Shrewsbury Street. See obit in Library/Misc Stuff/Item 27 p1.

      1861 census shows his household including a 21 year old person born in Scotland with the name Jno McLeod. (See Library/Misc Stuff/Item 28 P 1) This might be a transcription error meaning John, who was Jane's brother.
