- Obituary:
Joseph Allen Johnston, 21, 606 Lions Head Lane, died Thursday (April 20, 1978) in St. Vincent Hospital after a one-car auto accident early Tuesday morning. Police reported that Mr. Johnston was driving west in the 4000 block of East 82nd Street at 1 a.m. Tuesday when his car left the road on the south side. The auto traveled 350 feet off the road, struck an abutment & rolled 67 feet before coming to rest. Mr. Johnston was taken to St. Vincent Hospital.
He was born in Crawfordsville & lived most of his life in Indianapolis. He attended Howe Military School & graduated from Park Tudor School, where he received honors for athletics & leadership. He attended Franklin College & Indiana-Purdue University, Indianapolis.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Second Presbyterian Church. Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the Leppert & Copeland Mortuary.
Survivors include his mother, Mrs. William H. Church; a brother, Charles W. Johnston; 2 sisters, Mrs. Barry R. Fritsch & Miss Amy B. Johnston, all of Indianapolis; & his grandmother, Mrs. William C. Montgomery of Pittsboro.
Mr. Joseph A. Johnston, age 21, son of Mrs. William H. (Norma) Church & the late William B. Johnston, brother of Mrs. Barry R. (Debbie) Fritsch, Miss Amy B. Johnston & Mr. Charles W. Johnston, grandson of Mrs. William C. (Nell) Montgomery, passed away Thursday (April 20, 1978). Funeral services 1 p.m., Saturday at Second Presbyterian Church, 7700 N. Meridian St. Friends may call at the Leppert & Copeland Mortuary, 740 E. 86th St. Contributions may be made to Park Tudor School.
