      I am working on William Posey, born about 1800, in SC according to the Census records.
      As you know, he had several children, many of whom are buried at Smoak cemetery in what is now Crisp County. I don't know the name of William Posey's wife So I recently obtained a copy of the death certificate of Martha A. Posey Gleaton....daughter of William Posey. It shows her parents' names as "Judge Posey" and "Miss Gay". That is the first clue I have seen as to the name of William Posey's wife. I then pulled the obituary of Mrs. Gleaton in the Americus newspaper....and it listed one surviving sibiling: "Jane Callier of Florida".
      I believe this to be Jane Posey, who married John D. Houston in 1866 in Worth County. She is listed as Jane Houston on the 1870 Census, and Sarah J. Houston on the 1880 Census. By 1900, I think Mr. Houston has died, and Sarah Jane Posey Houston is married and living with Adolphus "Dolly" Collier.
      By the way, Adolphus Collier is buried among the Poseys at Smoak Cemetery, so this all adds up.
      But here is my question: Mrs. Gleaton's obituary in Dec 1921 says that Jane Callier/Collier was still alive - living in Florida. There is no tombstone for her at Smoak Cemetery....so maybe she died in Florida. I'd like to get her death certificate/obituary for more clues on her parents. Do you know when/where she died? Did one of her Houston children move to Florida? Maybe she was living with them in her old age......
