      . 1949 Sep 29 - 20 years ago, St. Alban Anglican church was the scene of a charming autumn wedding when Molly Cutts & Robert Elwood Johnston were married by Rev W G Luxton. Matron of honor was Mrs J H Hare & Allan Grey was groomsman.

      . 1949 - 20 years ago - Six Acton young people had a miraculous escape from serious injury or fatality early Sunday morning in a car collision on the Queen Elizabeth Way. Mrs. Dick Van Goozen was the most seriously injured suffered lacerations of the knee & all the others were badly bruised Dirk Van Goozen, Mr & Mrs Elwood Johnson, Miss Jean Harris & Mr. Kerwin McPhail.

      . 1968 May 15 - School for Deaf described to Greenock W.I. embers, at the home of Mrs K Kendrick on May 8th in the evening. Mrs Elwood Johnston thanked the hostess & program committee for the lovely evening.

      . 1968 Sept 25 - Greenock Women's Institute held their Sept. meeting at the home of Mrs Ralph McKeown at Glen Williams. A donation was also to be given to the Northern Canada Institute fund. The motto "The past is never dead unless we make it so" was given by Mrs. Elwood Johnston. She also showed 2 films taken by her family on a trip taken to Expo & Upper Canada Village explaining each as she went along. Mrs. Wm. Johnston assisted her with the program, read a poem "Churning".

      . 1968 Nov 27 - Mrs. Alfred Winters has hottest for the regular meeting of the Greenock women's Institute held on Thursday, Nov. 4 in the evening. 12 members & visitors were present. Mrs. Elwood Johnston read a very interesting article on "Literacy the great liberator, which told of the life of people in India.

      . 1969 May 28 - Greenoch WI, at the home of Mrs C Binnie for their May meeting. Institute grace was sung followed by a delicious lunch served by the hostess & committee, Mrs W Johnston & Mrs A Winter. Mrs G Leslie thanked the hostess. Mrs. Elwood Johnston will be hostess for the June 10th meeting.
      . Unit 2 of UCW met in the church on Wed. May 21 for the regular monthly meeting. Mrs. G Johnston, evening president, chaired the meeting. Mrs O Johnston read the minutes. They presented an insight into the lives & education of the workaday Chinese families. To top the evening the lunch committee served Chinese food & green tea.

      . 1969 Jul 2 - Greenock Dainty Timblers met at the home of Mrs. Elwood Johnston for their June Meeting. They were modeling the garments they had made in their latest club, "Separates for Summer. Each one commented briefly on her garment & also had her record book on display. Lunch was served by the hostess assisted by her daughters, also Mrs C Aiken & Norma Leslie.

      . 1969 Jul 16 - Greenock W I were taken on a mystery trip to the village of Rockwood to visit the "enchanted house of dolls', 525 dolls for 45 countries, made by their proud owner, Mr H shoemaker. In her charming soft-spoken manner she commented on her dolls. Mrs. Elwood Johnston thanked Mrs. Shoemaker for her interesting story of her hobby. Mrs Elwood Johnston & Miss E Pearen were conveners for "Historical Research". Mrs E Johnston had prepared a motto "All Wisdom is not new Wisdom. Wisdom is happiness. Happiness is personality & lifetime of thing, shoe told in part. Mrs. Elva Winters was courtesy convener. - - -
