  • Notes
    • Jesse is the son of Elizabeth Stockdale & John Doan / Doane.

Jessie Doanne first wife was C E Roadhouse.

. Born on Yonge St. near Newmarket, Ontario.
Jesse married2, Waite Ann Brooker on Dec. 31, 1834 in Sharon, & resided in Sharon, Ontario. Mr. Doan was an accomplished musician & for 30 years was leader of the Sharon band. He, like some of his cousins, participated in the MacKenzie Rebellion, 1837-1838. He was arrested as a rebel sympathizer & spent several months in a Toronto prison, during which time the leaders, Lount & Matthews, suffered the death penalty.
Jesse was a farmer. After harvest was over, he would visit Boston, MA, then the musical center of the continent. All the best of the new music was introduced there. After each concert, he would return to his room & write down the theme or air to any he considered good. After the concerts, about 2 weeks, he would return home & write out parts for the different instruments of his band. In this way, Sharon Temple had all the latest new good music long before Boston had released it for publication.
