  • Notes
    • "According to family tradition, John's father's name was John and he died "during the revolution" at which time he was an invalid under the care of his daughter; who begged for his life during a "burning" of homes during the revolution. Family tradition also says that John Clark (the elder) was a hatter by trade and made a hat while near the age of 100. John Clark (THE YOUNGER); (1740-1818) was married 1) to Martha Westcott with whom he had three children, an infant who died young, Abijah (b. 1765), Ichabod (b. 1766). Martha was the daughter of John Westcott and she died shortly after giving birth to Ichabod. John then married 2) Polly/Mary Robinson -- we are also looking for anyone who can help us with Polly's parentage, siblings, etc. -- With Polly, he had children: Amos, Thomas, Ezra, Patty, Amaziah, Mary/Polly, Joel, Henry. Allied families include: Ayres, Westcott, Ingersoll, Weed, Scofield, Fowler, Hoyt, Botsford, Boardman, Crafts.

Weeds and Clarks left Saratoga between 1800 and 1810, with Gilbert Weed going to the town of Springport, Cayuga County first. He was followed by his son-in-law Ichabod Clark. Ichabod's brothers also migrated to Cayuga County. They were: Amos, Thomas, Joel and Henry. Sarah Weed (dau of Gilbert) was married to Ichabod Clark (1766-1844). Another child of John Clark and Martha Westcott, was Abijah Clark (b. 1765; Town of Bedford, Westchester Co) he married Hannah Ingerson/Ingersol; they had 5 children.(Source: Family History Days Event ca 1800 families from Milton & Greenfield to Cayuga County, Liz Cornish, Ancestry message boards, 10 Jun 2004)."
