Signed, Danl. Wright, JP., Adolphustown, 29 January, 1812.
Envelope: Read in Council in Council 25 Feb, 1812. Recommended for 200 Acres.
Warrant issued 3 Mar. 1812.
- This Petitioner is stated to be now in the United States by Mr. Casey, M.P. [Member of Parliament], 1st March, 1818, In her application to know if a warrant had issued.
Note: This last entry is a very curious entry:
Betsey Simons was granted 200 Acres on 3 March, 1812 by Justice of Peace, Daniel Wright who was involved in the then just beginning of the War of 1812. The intervening War would have made obtaining a deed difficult to impossible with Gen. Isaac Brock away fighting various battles in Upper Canada.
So in 1817 it appears Betsey Simons is finally inquiring about the land granted to her 5 years previously. Firstly, NO land can be granted to any person living outside of the Province of Upper Canada, & secondly & more to the point, during & subsequent to the 1812 War, a person moving to the United States would have been of suspected loyalty with further action to be taken!
