  • Notes
    • Martin's wife, Elizabeth Denzille, inherited the Manor of Buckland Filleigh, as well as the Manor of Hartleigh, and the estates of Fileigh, Weare Giffard and Buckland Filleigh, from her parents Richard Denzille and a Miss Courtenay. On Elizabeth's marriage to Martin, he became lord of the manor, and it remained in the Fortescue family until 1834. The early history of the Manor of Buckland Fileigh, the families who owned it, and of the Parish of Buckland Filleigh, is contained in a book by Jane Taylor: "Buckland Fileigh - A Continuous Thread".
