• Notes

  In his Parkham parish baptismal record, "Downing" is transcribed as "Donning". Per Colleen Evans [[email protected]], Downing family tree, Henry was living with his parents at West Goldsworthy Farm in the 1841 and 1851 censuses. He and his family emigrated to Dereham, Oxford County, Ontario, Canada in 1857, and is listed there as a farmer in the 1871 Canada census. The 1871 census shows the family's religion as Methodist New Connexion. The children are listed as: Fred, 19; Frank, 17; Charley, 15; Lucy, 10; William, 8; Mary, 6; Thirza, 4; and Louis, 1. In the 1881 census, his wife Mary is listed as a widow, living on the Dereham farm with her children and a servant.
