To Lieut. Gov. John Colborne, In Council,
Petition of William Cowell, Saltfleet, yeoman.
On 19 Mar 1811, your petitioner purchased from Charles Moore, Saltfleet, Lot 15, Con 4 in consideration of £25 paid him as appears by the annexed Deed.
Your petition immediately of the purchasing settled on said Lot, learned abut 40 acres, & always paid he Taxes. The Lot was originally located by Enoch Moore, father of Chas. for, but no Deed was issued. In 1818 Chas. Moore petitioned said Lot located by his father, might be granted to himself & sister May Lee, Order iIn Council 2 May same year, when the son of Chas. Moore of age.
Your Petitioner served in the Militia during the late War & has resided in this Province 30 years [1800] & never received any land from the Crown.
That he was severely injured by the fall of a tree while on Militia Duty during the War had has ever since been able to perform but little labor, & that he never received nor applied for any Pension. That he has a wife & 12 children & should he deprive of the said Lot will be come completely examined(?) Wherefore your petitioner humbly prays you shall be pleased to grant him such [compensation] may be pleased.

Petition of John Combs for land relief.
Mary Cowell, wife of William Cowell, Salftfleet, taketh oath & said John Combs, Salffleet, shoemaker took possession of Lot 14, Con 4, doubt 15 years since. There there was no other improvement than a small chopping thereon & that to her opinion & belief he now cleared, by himself & others about 20 Acres on said Lot.

. There is a Levinas Cowell who is buried at the Felker Cemetery, d. 29 Nov 1877 at Binbrook, Wentworth Co., Ontario. He was a farmer, male, age 77, b. about 1800 in the US, Methodist, reported by Walter Cowell, farmer Burford. According to one marriage record of a daughter Abigail, Levinas's wife's name was Abigail.
