      . 1872 Mar 1, Markham Council met at Size's hotel, Unionville, n Sat. 24th Ing.The Treasurer is herby authorized to pay William Mason, path master of road division No. 33, the same of $7.66 for 85 feet of plant to repair the bridge between Lots 20 & 2 5th Concession.

      Biography
      William Mason was one of the prominent members of metropolitan Methodist Church, in chi he was a local preacher. during his short stay at Thornhill he was equally active in religious work, on returning to Toronto in 1852 was one appointed by the Richmond St. Methodist Church, & had been formed in St. John's Ward, & led to the Elm Street Church.
      1856 Nov 10 Mr Mason & Miss Mary Lawrence are united in marriage. Mrs. Mason is a daughter of Major Peter Lawrence , an early settler of York co., who was born in Fredericton NB, Nov 21, 1788, son of John Lawrence, of English parentage.
      In 181 Peter Lawrence came to Toronto & engaged in the tanning business a few miles from the city & he also owned much property. He took a great interest in military matters, was a jar in the militia & participated in the War of 1812-14 & the Rebellion of 1837. He married Elizabeth Cummer, born in Pennsylvania Nov 20 1793. They had these children.
      Margaret, deceased who married John Wilson;
      John, William Peter & Jacob deceased; Elizabeth widow of John Walker, Mary, mrs Mason; Nancy Catherine, widow of Henry Peterman of aurora & Sarah Jane deceased who married Frank Noverre.
      Mr Mrs Mason children:
      Lieut Col. Percival L, of Queen's Own Rifles married Miss Luella Mitchell & had children, Bertha L & Ailee; Alfred E of Vancouver BC, married Miss Clara Dack & had 1 dau. Edith;
      Arthur H, Toronto, married Minnie Davidson & had 5 children: Islay, Edna, Carroll, Wm. & Donald;
      Miss Bertha, Toronto; Wm E of Regina, Sask. married Miss Nellie Cockburn & had children Harold, Edgar, Helen & Herbert; & Thomas Harold of Toronto.
      In the death of Mr Mason, Toronto lost one of her most able & highly respected men.
