. 1877 Oct 16 - Riley Centre, Benjamin Felker is building a large house for a residence. Two other houses are being erected & there are plenty of lots to be sold cheap. B. Felker as 40 acres plotted out that he would like to sell at reasonable price, others adjoining are willing to sell or give village lots to mean that have money do business in this place.

. Benjamin FELKER, farmer, Section 17, P.O. Riley Center, was born in the town of Salt Fleet, Ontario, Canada, February 19, 1837. He lived with his parents until he was19 years of age attending the common schools winters. In 1856, he came to East Saginaw, Michigan, where he worked 2 years learning ship-carpenter's trade. From here he returned to Canada, where he worked at farming 3 years, at the end of which time he returned to Michigan, working at his trade in Detroit & Marine City, in the shipyard 2 years.
From Marine City he came to Riley, where he bought 40 acres of wild land which he has improved & to which added subsequent purchases, until he now owns 300 acres of farm land, partly improved. He himself has improved about 190 acres of land & is engaged in general farming, raises horses and sheep good quality. He has been School Inspector, Road Commissioner, & Justice of the Peace for 4 years, & at one time Town Clerk. He is a member of the Masonic fraternity, of the Royal Arch Chapter & has been Senior & Junior Warden of his lodge. He was married to Miss Marietta RAYMOND, of the town of Riley, St. Clair County, January 24, 1864, & had 5 children:

Mr. FELKER is an honored and highly respected citizen. By his own efforts he has earned a handsome fortune, which will prove a solace in his declining years.
