    • Ann Clarissa Marsh, daughter of Sarah Bridgeford Smith & Robert Marsh*, Vaughan Twp., Ontario. Robert landed in Upper Canada in 1800 & lived near by to daughter, Mrs. Ann C Lawrence.

      . Although there is no record of to whom the land was assigned the patent was to the Honourable Michael Kortz in 1803. The Lawrence family acquired the property in 1817. In spite of the single family ownership, there were 7 houses on the property in 1851, as well as a tailor shop. By 1861, there was a sawmill, a woollen mill & a tannery.

      . Marsh Street
      Robert Marsh purchased Lots 42 & 43, Markham, in 1815 & 1802 respectively. Alexander Marsh built the house now used by the David Dunlap Observatory as the Director's residence. Rev. Wm. Jenkins on March 19, 1821, Margery married James Marsh, Wit. brother David Marsh.

      . Lot 63-Con 1 King Twp.
      King Thomas Hind received the Crown grant in 1797, having been assigned the lot in 1794, as a settler. The next buyer was John McFarland, who held the property until 1834 when he sold to Thomas MacAdam. No sooner had Thomas MacAdam purchased the land than he sold the west half to James Marsh. The next year Thomas sold the northeast quarter to Hiram Beach & the northwest quarter to Nathaniel Vernon. The Marsh family were still on a portion of the property until 1886. This property was the site of the well-known Bond Lake Hotel.

      * Robert Marsh:
      $200 Reward, Whereas on Saturday evening, between the hours of 11 & 12 o'clock, some evil disposed person or persons took from the shed pertaining to Mr. Ingles Hotel, Markham Village, a Horse & Buggy belonging to James Bowman, Esq., Thornhill & drove it over the Bridge into the Rouge, smashing the buggy & severely injuring the horse, the above reward will be given to any who will give information that shall lead to the conviction of the dastardly scoundrel or scoundrels.
