- Obituary:
Keen indeed were the pans of sorrow which this community experienced when the news flashed around that Miss Enid Gordon Wilda Gordon had passed peacefully away to her Heavenly home. Enid, who was 18 years old on Sept 23rd last was the youngest daughter of Mr Mrs Will Gordon. Although failing in health the past few weeks we did not think the end was so near. For some days previous to her death she had been in bed. About 5 o'clock on Wednesday evening, November 9, she fell asleep & from this slumber she never awoke, but passed away about 10 o'clock to be with Jesus. Enid was a bright girl with a cheerful disposition & was beloved by all those with whom she came in contact. She bore her illness with Christmas fortitude. The funeral took place on Saturday. Rev McNeil, pastor of the United Church preached a short sermon at the house at 2 o'clock. The remains were then taken to the United Church which was filled to capacity with friends &sympathizers.
The floral tokens which expressed love for the deceased & sympathy to the bereaved were very beautiful. The pall bearers were Messrs. John & Stanley Campbell, Albert & Duncan Williams, Chas Turner & Lewis Genoe.
Interment took place in the family plot at Salem cemetery, 8th line, beside the remains of her sister, Eunice, who passed away at the age of 18, three years ago this 28th of November. Friends from a distance were Mr Mrs Victor Harding, Miss Irene Walker & Mr Ira Rozzell, Acton; Mr & Mrs George Rozzell & son, Dave, from Erin; Mr & Mrs Comfort Rozzell & daughter, Margaret, Georgetown; Mr & Mrs John Walker & Wm Gibson, Cataract; Mr Mrs Jos Thompson & family, Feversham; Mr Mrs Jack Wilson and Mr & Mrs Gordon Wilson Kimberley. We extend our deep sympathy to her grief stricken parents, her brother Earl, her sister, Loreen, (Mrs Melbourne Phillips) Rock Mills & sister, Hilda, at Hamitlon &other relatives in their bereavement. - - -
