Ferne was predeceased by her husband Vance Braden in 1987 as well as her sister Gladys Kerr, brother Bill Bossence, son-in-law Doug Campbell and daughter-in-law Sandy Braden.

Ferne was born in Harrington, West, ON to Gladwin and Emma Bossence. The family moved to Mortlach, SK. in 1918. At 16, Ferne left school to provide care to family members, continuing this role throughout her liftime. In 1937 she married Vance Braden, whom she had known for most of her life in Mortlach. In 1953 Ferne, Vance and their two children, Sharon and Jack, moved to Edmonton,AB. With their children grown and Vance retired, the couple began managing apartments in Edmonton and later Penticton,BC.

Ferne moved to Kamloops in 1987, after her husband passed away, in order to be near her daughter and family. In 1996 she became roommates with her granddaugter Laurel and her dog, Jazz who quickly became Ferne`s best friend and constant companion.

Ferne was a woman of strong faith and abiding love for her family, who took great joy in being Gamma to everyone she met. Fer spelled hospitality "FOOD".

She loved to bake, especially cookies, and had talents for quilting and knitting, with her slippers always in great demand. She loved and was often called on to care for her grand-dogs. She was a county music fan, even travelling to Nashville to attend Fanfest and was a faithful member of Crystal Cathedral`s Sparrow Club. She also liked to play the slots, making annual birthday outings to the local casinos with her grandkids. Ferne was an avid Canadian football fan, cheering on the BC Lions(except when they played the Riders)and betting on the games with her daughter. A high point came when she met and had her picture taken with Geroy Simon and the Grey Cup in 2007.

Her family was everything to her and included all those who knew and loved Gramma Ferne.

A Celebration of Ferne`s life will take place at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 31, 2010 at the Calvary Community Church(Fireside Room).
