Dr. Andrew Lightbody, A SOCIAL was held Friday evening at the M.E. Church, 6th Line, Garafraxa. Music played, two speeches, $11.50 was collected for the school Sabbath library.

. 1878 Aug 16 - Storm in Garafraxa. A severe hail & rain storm accompanied by wind & thunder, passed over Garafraxa. It has destroyed the crops, leveling standing grain & any gain that was near ripe, threshing three fourths of it off on the ground & king sad havoc with turnip fields when not sheltered by bush. The storm lasted about 40 minutes. hail the size of musket ball, a little flattened, fell enlarge quantities riddling turnips, potatoes & cabbage, leaving beautiful fields a complete wreck. The storm passed over 2nd Concession between Lots 10 -20, & appeared to have visited upper Bichol & Peel twps. before it came here. some had their windows broken with the hail.

. In Nov. 1879 The Credit Valley Train came through Belwood. ... At that time there were 4 trains a day through Hillsburg station (after Erin) from Elora to the Cataract Junction, about 8 am., back to Elora at noon, down again about 4 pm & returning about 8 pm. You had to change trains at the Cataract, if going to Toronto or Orangeville.

. Belwood Fall fair was a wonderful fair which carried on for 2 days, showing beautiful horses cattle, pigs, Etc. Lots of booths ere on the grounds selling homemade candy, gingerbread, honey in the comb, etc .A merry go round run by horsepower was an outstanding attraction. The first the women's work - vegetables, butter, eggs, flowers etc, & they were shown in the drill shed (town hall of today) on the market square. These grounds were used for picnics, baseball & any gathering that were going outside. It was so beautiful down amongst the trees beside the river.
