Eugene Quinton "Gene" Roszel, 77, of Coffeyville, passed away Sunday morning (August 19, 2007) at his home.
He was born September 2, 1929, at Coffeyville to Roy Stanley & Lael Elizabeth (Traughber) Roszel. He grew up & attended school in Coffeyville graduating from Field Kindley High School in 1947.
In July 1948, he joined the U.S. Navy serving on the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt during the Korean War; he was honorably discharged in June 1952. Following his discharge he returned to Coffeyville.
On September 28, 1953, he married Joan Cullison at Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Following their marriage they made their home in Coffeyville where Gene was employed as a Machinist & Maintenance Electrician at Continental Can Co., Ivan Morrow Foundry, Sherwin-Williams, & SEKTAM, retiring in 1989.
Gene enjoyed camping, fishing, woodworking, listening to Open Line & spending time with his family, he especially enjoyed taking his grandchildren fishing.
Survivors include his wife, Joan of the home;
three daughters, Joni Lea (Ed) Payne, Donna Jean Vail-Roszel, & Debra Sue (Cris) Goodbar all of Coffeyville;
three brothers, William (Ruth) Roszel of Santa Anna, CA, Irwin "Dutch" (Harriett) Roszel of Lake Havasu, AZ, & Patrick (Wanna) Roszel of Lawrence, KS;
two sisters, Bonnie (Hubert) Moffett of Knightson, CA, & Patsy Roszel of San Antonio, TX;
7 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents & 3 sisters.
A celebration of life service will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday (August 24, 2007) in the Tyro Christian Church with David Bycroft officiating. Burial will be in Robbins Cemetery west of Coffeyville.
Friends may call on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. & Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to Coffeyville Regional Medical Center Foundation for the Cancer Center; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 N. Cline Rd., Coffeyville, KS 67337.
