. SNYDER, The original spelling of this name was Schneider but the Canadian branches of the family spell it Snyder or Snider. In Pannsylvania Archives is found a list of the Palatin, Bavarian, passengers in the ship William & Sarah, Captain William Hill, which left Rotterdam, Holland, Sep 18, 1727 & arrived at Philadelphia Oct 16, 1727. Among the passengers were
Christian, Jacob, Martin, Mathias, Madeline & Susannah Schneider.

Christian Snyder with his wife, Madeline, settled near Paulins
Kill Creek, Knowlton township, Sussex County, New Jersey. Their
children were: Elizabeth, 1731; George, 1733; Christian, 1735; Peter,
1737; Adam, 1740; William, 1742; Henry, Eva Maria, Maria Catherine,
Ann, Christiana.
. 1793 Adam Snyder with his wife, Ann Frease & 8 children came to Upper Canada. They left New Jersey the latter part of August & were 6 weeks on the road. The distance travelled was
about 500 miles through the wilderness, the roads being only Indian trails from one settlement to another. The women & children came on horseback & most of the men walked & drove the cattle & sheep. They brought their household goods on pack horses. Adam Snyder settled on Lot 21, Con. 6I, Gainsborough township. He built the mills on The Twenty, the location first called Snyder's Mills & later changed to St. Ann's in honour of Adam's wife Ann. Ann was born 1742, died 1807. Adam died in 1826, & they were buried in St. Ann's churchyard where old sandstones mark their resting place. Children of Adam & Ann (Frease) Snyder, as given by Knowlton baptismal records, N. Jersey, & Mr. T. H. Snyder of Fergus.
