- Garret Vanzant did have a son James Vanzant, but this petition does not name his father. Verification of the children of the brothers, John & Garret Vanzant.

UCLPetition 4 of James Vanzant, That your petitioner's father suffered in the last American war the most cruel treatment from the Americans for his loyalty to his king & country.
That your petitioner was old enough to join the Royal Standard & is now in this Province for settling therein. He is here in this province now to settle near his brother. Wherefore he humbly prays to obtain land, & likewise a lot in the Town of York for the purpose of building near his brother.

Notes2: It is unclear from this petition if this is the son or brother of John Vanzant. To receive a UC Land Grant one had to be 21 years (or younger if a married was a female). The estimated date of birth for this James Vanzant would be at least born 1783-84. The James, s/o Garret Vanzante, was born 10 May, 1798, NY state. - PJA 2012.
