- Obituary
Mr. W.J. Cowell, well-known farmer of the township of Saltfleet, passed away at his home near Tweedside on Wednesday, Nov. 8, 1916, after being confined to his room for 2 months, & being in poor health for over a year. The cause of his death was gangrene brought about through an injury to his leg. The deceased gentleman was just in the prime of life, being 52 [1864] years of age, & was a son of the late well-known farmer & horseman, Mr. William Cowell. He died in the house where he was born on the old homestead. The deceased is survived by his widow, 1 son, Lafayette, now overseas with the 129th County of Wentworth Battalion, & 4 small children at home. The funeral took place on Friday afternoon, Nov. 10, to Tweedside Church cemetery. Services were conducted at the church by the Rev. Mr. Clark, of Tapleytown. The pallbearers were Edward Bradt, Jos. Bradt, Fletcher Brand, W.G. Brand, Robt. H. Penfold & William Tweedle.
